What has been announced—and what is still pending?
LIV Golf said it began a court-supervised Chapter 11 restructuring in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey on September 8, 2026. The company said it had entered a Restructuring Support Agreement with BC Partners Credit and described the process as a way to recapitalize the business and continue operating.
On October 5, BC Partners Credit announced an initial investment as part of a targeted $300 million in cumulative financing, according to The Associated Press’s October 6 report. AP reported that the financing still required bankruptcy-court approval. An announced investment is therefore not the same as court-approved financing, and neither announcement establishes that LIV has completed its restructuring.
At the time of AP’s report, the court docket index listed a second-day hearing for October 7, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. in case 3:26-bk-20189. That was a scheduled hearing, not evidence of a ruling. The available reporting does not establish its outcome.

Who is providing the proposed financing?
There are two distinct funding figures in the announcements, and they refer to different things:
- BC Partners Credit: The firm announced an initial investment within the targeted $300 million cumulative financing plan. AP reported that court approval was still required.
- Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF): LIV’s September 8 announcement said PIF had agreed to provide $49.6 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing, subject to court approval. That company announcement does not establish that the loan was approved.
AP separately reported that PIF had provided more than $5 billion to LIV since the league launched in 2022 and had withdrawn its massive funding. That historical total is not the same as the proposed DIP financing or BC Partners Credit’s announced investment. The figures describe different funding and time periods.

How would the proposed LIV 2.0 differ?
The restructuring proposal points to a different ownership model and a smaller planned schedule. The details below reflect announcements and planning reported in October 2026, not finalized terms or a confirmed calendar.

BC Partners Credit partner and head Ted Goldthorpe described the intended direction as giving players “real and actionable ownership in the league and the teams.” That is the investor’s rationale for the proposed model, not an independent assessment of whether the plan will succeed. LIV CEO Scott O’Neil also expressed confidence in the league’s future, while player Adrian Meronk said, “There’s still a lot of unknowns that we are not sure of.”

What does the restructuring mean for LIV players?
Players face a choice about whether to join the proposed next version, but the available reporting does not identify who will sign or what each player’s final options will be. Signing onto a new model and resolving obligations under an existing contract are separate issues.
AP reported that Sergio Garcia had asked the bankruptcy court to clarify the status of his contract. The report does not establish the court’s answer to that request. It also does not settle the contract position of other players, so no general conclusion about player obligations or exit rights can be drawn from it.

A return to the PGA Tour is another open question. AP reported that the Tour had not said whether it would provide a prompt route for LIV players comparable to Koepka’s route at the beginning of 2026. Players therefore did not have a confirmed general return path in the reporting available at that time.

The announcements show a proposed financing path and a plan to continue with a revised league, but they do not establish the outcome. Court approval of financing, the terms and completion of a restructuring, player decisions, contract questions and a finalized schedule all affect what happens next.

LIV’s stated aim is to emerge as a going concern, and Goldthorpe said BC Partners Credit’s goal was to help the league leave restructuring on sound financial footing. Those are statements of intent from the company and its prospective investor. As of the reporting described here, there was no established emergence date or confirmed final outcome.
