MARA reported 35,577 BTC as of June 30, so the dated figures differ by 6,115 BTC—but they are not same-day balances.
What Strive bought and how much it now reports holding
In a Form 8-K filed October 5, Strive said it purchased 2,000 BTC between September 28 and October 2 at an average price of approximately $84,422 per bitcoin, inclusive of fees and expenses. The company reported 29,462 BTC on October 2, up from 27,462 BTC on September 25. Strive’s Form 8-K
The filing also reports a separate September 30 snapshot of 28,000 BTC. That is a different date and should not be confused with the October 2 balance.
How close Strive is to MARA
| Company | Reported bitcoin total | As-of date | Composition disclosed in filing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strive | 29,462 BTC | October 2, 2026 | The cited filing reports the total; the comparison source does not establish a matching liquidity breakdown. |
| MARA | 35,577 BTC | June 30, 2026 | 9,270 BTC were in its digital asset management strategy: 4,742 loaned and 4,528 pledged as collateral. |
On those reported figures, MARA’s total is 6,115 BTC higher. Because Strive’s balance is dated October 2 and MARA’s is dated June 30, this is a comparison of the latest figures cited here, not a simultaneous ranking. MARA’s filing also means its total should not be read as entirely unrestricted bitcoin. MARA’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026

Purchase and treasury context
Quarterly buying
Strive said it acquired 8,137 BTC at an average cost of $78,885 during the third quarter of 2026. That quarterly figure covers a different period and purchase set from the 2,000 BTC bought September 28 through October 2. Strive’s Form 8-K
Cash balance
Strive reported $284.7 million in cash and cash equivalents as of October 2, 2026. This is a dated company-reported treasury figure, not a statement about cash available after any subsequent activity. Strive’s Form 8-K

Funding reported for the purchases
The Block reported, attributing the explanation to CEO Matt Cole, that SATA preferred-share sales represented 61.5% of capital raised and warrant exercises generated $56.7 million. These are management-attributed funding details; Strive’s SEC filing separately shows changes in SATA shares outstanding and traditional warrants. The Block’s October 5, 2026 report
Why the purchase is described as the biggest since June
The “biggest since June” characterization comes from The Block’s comparison with a 2,500 BTC purchase in June. The October transaction itself is disclosed by Strive in its Form 8-K; the historical comparison is the news report’s framing. The Block’s October 5, 2026 report

How to read Strive’s reported performance metrics
Strive’s filing also lists a 63.2% year-to-date BTC yield and a 55.3% amplification ratio. These are company-defined metrics, not standardized or independently validated measures. Their meaning depends on Strive’s stated methodology, so they should not be treated as directly comparable to a general market return or another company’s metric. Strive’s Form 8-K
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What these figures establish—and what they do not
The SEC filing establishes what Strive disclosed about its purchase, reported holdings and cash; it is not independent verification of bitcoin custody. Likewise, MARA’s June 30 balance cannot establish its holdings on October 2. The figures support a dated comparison, not a definitive current ranking or a conclusion that either company’s reported bitcoin is equally available.
