AD HOC NEWS reported that Nintendo shares fell 1.36% to JPY 7,742 on October 5, 2026, while investors weighed quarterly profit against slower Switch 2 hardware sales. The reported price move has not been independently confirmed here, and the article does not establish that those business results caused the decline. Nintendo’s official investor-relations pages confirm that it published results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, and reports Switch 2 sales data for that date.
What happened to Nintendo shares on October 5?
An October 5, 2026 AD HOC NEWS article reported a 1.36% one-day decline in Nintendo’s share price to JPY 7,742. Those figures should be treated as that outlet’s report, not as an independently verified exchange quote: the available material does not include primary market data confirming the price or daily change. The same article attributed the decline to investors weighing first-quarter profit against slower Switch 2 hardware sales. That is the outlet’s explanation, not an established cause. A reported share-price move and a company’s operating results are separate facts; showing that one caused the other would require evidence about investor reaction that the article does not provide.

How to read the profit-versus-hardware claim
AD HOC NEWS, attributing its figures to TS2, reported net sales of JPY 517.8 billion, down 9.5% year over year; operating profit of JPY 142.5 billion, up 150.5%; and net income of JPY 147.4 billion, up 53.5%. It also reported 3.82 million Switch 2 hardware units, down 34.4% year over year, and 9.46 million software units, up 9.2%. These are secondary-source figures and remain unverified against Nintendo’s detailed earnings release. AD HOC NEWS report on the financial and sales figures

If those figures are accurate, they describe different measures moving in different directions: reported profit increased while net sales and hardware units declined, and software units increased. They do not, on their own, explain a particular day’s share-price movement. The comparison also needs to preserve its reporting period and measurement basis; hardware and software unit shipments are not interchangeable with revenue or profit.

- Check Nintendo’s June-quarter earnings release for the financial figures, year-over-year comparisons, and reporting definitions.
- Check the company’s sales-data page for hardware and software unit totals and their as-of date.
- Confirm the October 5 share price and daily percentage change using exchange or other primary market data.
- Look for contemporaneous evidence before attributing the move to earnings or hardware sales; timing alone does not demonstrate causation.
Nintendo’s IR news page also lists a September 16, 2026 entry titled “Six Months Earnings Release Schedule.” AD HOC NEWS reported November 5, 2026 as the date for the six-month release, but that date was not confirmed in the official material reviewed here.
