For the quarter ended August 31, 2026, sales were $2.22 billion, up 4.8% year over year; adjusted diluted EPS was $1.98, up 5.3%; and adjusted EBITDA was $405.5 million, up 4.5%, according to RPM’s October 6, 2026 release. The construction weakness was more pronounced in fiscal Q2 2026, but the company reported stronger results in the following quarters.
What RPM reported in fiscal Q1 2027
RPM’s fiscal year ends May 31, so its first quarter of fiscal 2027 covered the three months ended August 31, 2026. In the October 6 release, the company reported consolidated sales of $2.22 billion, up 4.8% from the year-earlier quarter. Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose 5.3% to $1.98, and adjusted EBITDA reached a record $405.5 million, up 4.5%. These are company-reported figures; the earnings and EBITDA measures are adjusted, not GAAP results.
RPM attributed the quarter’s performance to organic growth in Performance Coatings and Consumer, alongside manufacturing, procurement and selling, general and administrative (SG&A) efficiencies. It also identified raw-material inflation and a temporary slowdown in Construction Products as challenges. Those explanations reflect management’s account of its own results, not an independent measure of construction activity across the market.
How to read the current outlook
RPM’s October 6 guidance called for low- to mid-single-digit growth in both sales and adjusted EBITDA for fiscal Q2 2027, and mid-single-digit growth in both measures for the full fiscal year. The ranges are qualitative descriptions rather than exact percentage bands in the release.

The full-year outlook is narrower than the range RPM gave in July. On July 22, when it reported fiscal 2026 results, the company projected fiscal 2027 sales growth of 3% to 7% and adjusted EBITDA growth of 5% to 10%. The October guidance is the more recent outlook; the July ranges should not be treated as the current forecast. RPM’s newsroom lists the October release as its latest reported quarter.
Construction slowdown: the fiscal Q2 2026 low point
The title’s slowdown framing most closely describes RPM’s fiscal Q2 2026, reported January 8, 2026. Organic sales declined 0.5%. Adjusted EBIT fell 11.2% to $226.6 million, while adjusted diluted EPS decreased 13.7% to $1.20, according to RPM’s quarterly release. Organic sales exclude the effects of acquisitions and foreign-currency movements, so that decline is not the same measure as a change in consolidated sales.

RPM said construction projects had longer lead times, and pointed to the extended federal government shutdown and soft DIY demand as contributors to the quarter’s weaker performance. Chairman and CEO Frank C. Sullivan said in the January 8 release: “The prolonged government shutdown contributed to the trend of longer lead times on construction projects and further pressured already negative consumer sentiment.” This is management’s explanation of project timing and demand, not an independently measured estimate of construction-market activity.
RPM also announced optimization actions in January 2026 that it estimated would provide $100 million in annual benefits. That figure was a management estimate at the time, not a guarantee that the savings would be fully realized.

Results strengthened after Q2
The slowdown did not persist at the same intensity in RPM’s subsequent reported results. In fiscal Q3 2026, the company reported record sales of $1.61 billion, up 8.9%, and adjusted diluted EPS of $0.57, up 62.9%. RPM cited high-performance-building solutions, acquisitions, favorable currency and a rebound from the government shutdown, with soft DIY demand partly offsetting those factors. The figures and explanations are in its April 8, 2026 release.
For fiscal 2026 as a whole, RPM reported record sales of $7.86 billion, up 6.7%, and adjusted diluted EPS of $5.53, up 4.3%. Those full-year numbers put the weaker Q2 in context: a single soft quarter did not prevent the company from recording annual sales growth. The company reported the annual results and its initial fiscal 2027 outlook on July 22, 2026.

What investors should distinguish
- Consolidated sales and organic sales: Consolidated sales reflect the reported total. Organic sales are intended to show performance excluding acquisitions and currency effects; do not treat the two growth rates as interchangeable.
- Adjusted versus GAAP earnings: The EPS and EBIT or EBITDA figures above are adjusted measures. They are not substitutes for GAAP net income, earnings per share or operating income; compare like measures when reviewing RPM’s filings.
- Reported performance versus explanation: Sales, EPS and adjusted EBITDA are reported outcomes. Explanations involving lead times, shutdown effects, demand or efficiencies are RPM’s stated interpretations.
- Company-specific versus market-wide signals: The cited evidence establishes RPM’s account of its project timing and Construction Products segment, not a quantified industry-wide construction slowdown.
