Bloomberg News reported on Oct. 6, 2026, that DeepSeek was close to securing at least 80 billion yuan in new funding, with Tencent and battery maker CATL among the largest committed investors. Reuters separately reported that the raise was expected to exceed 80 billion yuan. Neither outlet reported that the round had closed, so the amount and investor commitments remain reported terms, not a completed transaction disclosure.

How much is DeepSeek reportedly raising?

Bloomberg reported that DeepSeek was close to securing at least 80 billion yuan, which it rounded to $12 billion. Reuters reported a raise of more than 80 billion yuan and converted that threshold to about $11.93 billion using an exchange rate of $1 to 6.7045 yuan. The dollar figures differ because of rounding and conversion; both reports describe a threshold of roughly 80 billion yuan, not two different rounds. Bloomberg News and Reuters attributed the figures to people familiar with the matter.

Both outlets said DeepSeek had initially sought about 50 billion yuan. Reuters reported that commitments had exceeded that target. The reports do not provide audited transaction disclosures or signed terms.

Who is reportedly investing?

Bloomberg and Reuters identified Tencent Holdings and CATL, the battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., as among the largest investors that had committed capital. Neither report specified their individual investment amounts or published a complete investor list. The reports relied on anonymous sources; they do not establish that Tencent or CATL publicly confirmed the commitments.

Has DeepSeek’s funding round closed?

No closing was confirmed in the cited reports. Bloomberg said the financing was close to being secured and would close soon. Reuters expected the round to wrap up in October 2026. Those are forecasts reported on Oct. 6, not confirmation that the transaction completed.

What is known about DeepSeek’s valuation?

Reuters reported that the round targeted a valuation of 500 billion yuan when fundraising began in July 2026. That is a reported target, not a confirmed final valuation. Reuters said the eventual valuation, fundraising size and timing remained undecided; Bloomberg’s report does not establish a final valuation either.

Is DeepSeek preparing for an IPO?

Reuters reported that DeepSeek had hired CITIC Securities to prepare for a potential listing on the Shanghai STAR Market. It said the timing and valuation of a possible IPO had not been decided. Bloomberg described the funding as preceding a landmark IPO in early 2027, but that framing is not a confirmed listing schedule. IPO preparation alone does not establish that DeepSeek has filed a prospectus or received approval to list.

What the reports do not establish

  • The final amount raised, whether the round closed, or the signed terms.
  • DeepSeek’s final valuation and the complete list of investors or their allocations.
  • How DeepSeek plans to use the proceeds. The cited reports do not establish that the money is earmarked for model development, data centers or another specific purpose.

Reuters said Tencent and CATL did not immediately respond to its requests for comment, and DeepSeek did not immediately respond to its emailed request. No named executive or investor was quoted confirming the financing in the cited coverage.
