Moneycontrol’s October 4, 2026, trade setup for the October 5 opening pointed to a weak technical backdrop for Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty, with oversold readings leaving room for a short-term rebound. Its levels, options data and market counts describe a historical setup based largely on October 1—not live market conditions or trading advice.
1. Nifty 50: weak trend, with a possible oversold bounce
Moneycontrol reported that Nifty 50 fell 0.88% on October 1 to 22,422, its lowest level in six months and fourth consecutive losing session. It recovered more than 200 points from the session low, but the article characterized the broader pattern as weak: a bearish candle with a long lower shadow, lower highs and lower lows, and moving averages trending down.
The article put the Nifty RSI at 22.57, below its signal line, and described MACD as downward-sloping. The oversold RSI could allow a short-term bounce, but that possibility did not erase the weak trend in the article’s assessment.
Nifty pivot levels and broader reference points

|---|---|
| Pivot resistance | 22,567; 22,660; 22,810 |
| Pivot support | 22,266; 22,174; 22,023 |
| Recovery resistance cited in the article | 22,600, followed by 22,800 |
| Immediate support cited in the article | 22,200; a decisive break below it could put 22,000 in view |
These are levels identified in Moneycontrol’s dated analysis, not guaranteed turning points. The pivot figures and the article’s broader support and resistance references are different sets of technical levels.

2. Bank Nifty: weak indicators and an indecision-like candle
Moneycontrol used 54,451 as Bank Nifty’s reference level. It described a small-bodied bearish candle with long shadows, price below key moving averages, an RSI of 32.80 below its reference line, and MACD still in a downtrend. The MACD histogram’s weakness had eased for a second session, but the article still called the technical picture weak and the candle indecision-like.

| Pivot resistance | 54,928; 55,170; 55,561 |

| Fibonacci resistance | 55,897; 57,285 |

The pivot and Fibonacci figures are separate technical reference sets; neither establishes that an index will stop or reverse at a listed level.

3. Options positioning: what the reported open interest showed
Open interest is the number of outstanding options contracts. The strike with the most open interest, or a session’s largest addition or reduction, is a snapshot of positioning—not proof that the level will act as support or resistance. Moneycontrol’s figures below relate to its October 1 setup; Nifty figures are for weekly options and Bank Nifty figures are for monthly options.

4. Sentiment and volatility: PCR and India VIX
For October 1, Moneycontrol reported a Nifty put-call ratio (PCR) of 0.77, down from 0.79 in the previous session. The article offered an interpretation of rising or falling PCR readings as a sentiment signal; it is an interpretation, not a universal rule or a forecast by itself.

India VIX rose 7.15% to 14.45 on Thursday, October 1, and was above the key moving averages cited in the article. Moneycontrol said that remaining above 14 could keep participants cautious. VIX describes expected volatility, not the direction the market must take.
5. Stock positioning counts and delivery activity
Moneycontrol counted stocks in four price-and-open-interest categories. The counts are from its October 1 setup; the article’s stock names were shown in an image and are not available in its accessible text.

F&O ban list in the October 5 setup
Moneycontrol reported Ambuja Cements as added to the F&O ban list, with Bandhan Bank and SAIL retained and no stocks removed. The article described the ban threshold as derivative contracts crossing 95% of the market-wide position limit. This is a dated status report; check current exchange information before relying on it for another session.
How to use this historical setup
- Treat every index level, options figure, sentiment reading and stock count above as part of Moneycontrol’s October 4, 2026, roundup for the October 5 opening, based largely on October 1 observations.
- Do not treat a support or resistance level, open-interest concentration, PCR or VIX reading as a certain prediction or a personalized trade instruction.
- Check fresh exchange data before using any figure as current, and consider your own risk tolerance and circumstances before making an investment decision.
