Can an older Highlander Hybrid battery cost less?
Greentec Auto currently lists a remanufactured pack at $1,999 on its Highlander category page, which covers some older generations. The listing is not a universal installed price, and its scope may change. Confirm exact model-year fitment, whether installation is included, shipping or availability, and warranty terms before comparing it with a repair estimate. Could Toyota’s warranty cover the battery?
Check coverage before authorizing a paid replacement. Toyota says hybrid vehicles beginning with model year 2020 have hybrid high-voltage battery coverage for 10 years from original date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to the applicable New Vehicle Limited Warranty terms. Toyota’s 2025 Highlander Hybrid Warranty and Maintenance Guide states: “The Toyota Hybrid Battery Warranty is in effect for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first.” The guide separately lists 8 years or 100,000 miles for specified components, including the battery control module, hybrid control module, and inverter with converter. Replacement-part coverage is separate from the vehicle’s original warranty. Toyota Genuine Parts says a Toyota Genuine high-voltage battery installed by an authorized Toyota dealer has 36 months of coverage regardless of mileage from installation, or the remainder of an applicable new-vehicle warranty, whichever provides greater coverage. If the battery is not installed by an authorized dealer, Toyota lists a 12-month Toyota Service Parts Limited Warranty. Verify fitment and terms for the specific part and repair. What should a replacement quote include?
Request a written quote tied to your VIN and location, and ask the shop to itemize the details that determine the real cost:
- Battery type and provenance: new, remanufactured, or another configuration.
- Exact fitment for your Highlander Hybrid model year.
- Whether the quoted amount covers the battery alone or includes installation.
- Diagnosis, taxes, fees, shipping, and any related parts or repairs.
- Warranty length, coverage conditions, and who performs the installation.
- Availability and any return or core-charge terms that apply to the quoted option.
When comparing a Toyota dealer and an independent hybrid specialist, compare the same scope—not just the headline price. A lower parts listing may not include installation or carry the same warranty as a dealer-installed Toyota Genuine battery.

Should you replace the high-voltage battery yourself?
No DIY replacement procedure is appropriate here. RepairPal cautions that this work is not recommended for mechanics without proper high-voltage hybrid battery service training: improper handling can be dangerous and can damage vehicle components. Have diagnosis and replacement handled by a qualified hybrid service professional. This is the high-voltage traction battery, not the separate 12-volt auxiliary battery.
