These are the airline’s domestic fare rules current as of 4 October 2026. The $120 Lite and Choice fee applies to bookings made on or after 15 September 2026; earlier bookings retain the previous fee for the first change or cancellation. Which Virgin Australia fare includes checked baggage?
On domestic flights, Choice and Flex each include one checked bag up to 23 kg. Business includes two checked bags up to 32 kg each. Lite includes carry-on baggage, but checked baggage is an extra you can buy. Compare the fare difference with the cost of adding a bag to Lite for your specific booking rather than assuming Lite is cheapest overall.
Is seat selection included with Economy Lite?
Not for advance standard seat selection: on domestic Lite, you can pay to select a standard seat ahead of time. A standard seat becomes available without an extra fee within three hours of scheduled departure, subject to availability. Choice and Flex include a standard seat; Business seat selection is included.

Preferred seats and Economy X are separate products, not the same as standard seat inclusion. Virgin Australia’s seat-selection rules also distinguish its own operated services from selected long-haul flights to Doha and partner-operated flights. Check the applicable seat-selection terms for the flight you are booking.
Can you change a Virgin Australia Lite or Choice fare?
Changes are generally possible before the applicable cutoff, but a change fee and any fare difference may be payable. For bookings made on or after 15 September 2026, Lite and Choice generally have a $120 change fee; the fee can depend on when the booking was made. A change after scheduled departure is not permitted for these fares. Flex and Business have no change fee, although you must pay any fare difference if the new flight costs more. Review the booking’s fare rules and the airline’s current change conditions before making plans around a change.

What happens if you cancel Choice or Flex?
Under the listed domestic rules, cancelling Choice for travel credit generally incurs a $120 fee; seeking a refund to the original payment method generally means losing the fare. Flex offers travel credit without a fee, while a refund to the original payment method generally incurs a $120 fee. Business permits travel credit or a refund without a fee under those rules. Lite generally forfeits the fare for a credit or refund when cancelled before departure.
These are general fare-rule outcomes, not a substitute for legal rights. Virgin Australia says change and cancellation fees do not apply where a traveller is entitled to a refund or alternative flight under Australian Consumer Law. What extra benefits come with Business?
Business is more than an Economy seat with extra legroom: the domestic fare includes the Business cabin, two checked bags up to 32 kg each, lounge access and priority services where available. Those inclusions make it a different service level as well as a more flexible fare; lounge and priority availability should not be assumed at every airport or on every itinerary. Do not apply the domestic comparison automatically to an international itinerary. Baggage allowances, seat selection, lounge access and change rules vary by destination and operating airline.
