SquareX announced a $20 million Series A on April 24, 2025, to advance its browser-focused enterprise security product. SYN Ventures led the round, with existing investor Peak XV Partners participating. SquareX’s current website says it is now part of Zscaler, a later development that does not change the historical details of the financing.

Who invested in SquareX’s Series A?

SquareX said it closed the $20 million round on April 24, 2025. SYN Ventures led the financing, and Peak XV Partners participated as an existing investor. Peak XV was formerly known as Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia. SquareX’s announcement described the funding as support for its browser-native enterprise security product.

For context, SquareX’s official funding page lists a $6 million seed round in 2023, led by Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia. Separately, SYN Ventures said in its 2025 announcement that SquareX had raised around $30 million in total. That cumulative figure is approximate and attributed to the lead investor, rather than presented as an audited total.

What does SquareX’s browser security product do?

SquareX calls its enterprise product Browser Detection and Response (BDR). The company describes it as a way to detect, mitigate and investigate client-side web attacks through browser-level visibility and controls. Its proposed deployment model uses an extension in browsers employees already use, rather than requiring an organization to move to a separate enterprise browser.

SquareX presents this approach as a way to reduce change-management friction and preserve familiar workflows. Those are the company’s positioning claims; the cited materials do not provide independent head-to-head evidence on security effectiveness, performance or cost compared with other browser-security approaches.

Threats SquareX says it addresses

SquareX lists malicious browser extensions, advanced phishing, browser-native ransomware, identity attacks and generative-AI data leakage among the risks its product is designed to address. This is the company’s description of its coverage, not independent validation of the product’s ability to prevent or detect those threats. SquareX’s company information provides its current product and company positioning.

What has changed since the funding announcement?

SquareX’s current official website states that “SquareX is now part of Zscaler.” The $20 million round remains a 2025 financing announced by SquareX before that later status change; it should not be described as a new Zscaler funding round.

A December 2025 announcement carried by Nasdaq reported a strategic partnership with Wipro Ventures, identified there as Wipro Limited’s investment arm. That announcement establishes a named strategic relationship, but it does not establish that SquareX offers a public affiliate, referral or reseller program. Businesses considering a commercial relationship should confirm the current availability and terms directly.

What the $20 million raise does—and does not—tell buyers

The financing shows that SquareX secured backing from SYN Ventures and participation from Peak XV Partners to advance its BDR product. It is not, by itself, evidence of product efficacy or a measure of how common browser-based attacks are. The cited company and investor announcements do not provide an independent product-performance study or market-size statistic.

For security teams evaluating the category, the practical distinction raised by SquareX is deployment: adding controls to existing browsers versus adopting a separate enterprise browser. The available announcements explain the company’s rationale but do not provide comparable test results or cost data with which to declare one model more secure or economical.
