There is no like-for-like “biggest memory company” ranking in the latest reported figures. Micron’s fiscal 2026 revenue covers a year ending September 3; Samsung’s and SK hynix’s latest figures cover calendar Q2 2026, and Samsung’s headline revenue is for the whole electronics company rather than memory alone. On HBM, the companies describe different milestones: SK hynix reported mass shipments of HBM4, Samsung reported scaled HBM4 sales and HBM4E samples, and Micron’s cited release does not specify an HBM shipment status.
Micron vs. Samsung vs. SK hynix: what the latest figures measure
The periods and business scopes differ, so these figures are useful snapshots—not a clean league table of memory-business revenue or profitability. Micron reports on a fiscal year; Samsung and SK hynix report calendar quarters. Samsung is a diversified electronics company, and its headline financial totals are company-wide. The values below come from the companies’ 2026 releases: Micron’s September 30 release, Samsung’s July 30 release, and SK hynix’s July 29 release.
| Company | Reported period | Revenue | Operating profit | What the figures cover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micron Technology | Fiscal Q4 2026, ended September 3, 2026 | $54.229 billion | Not stated here (Micron, September 30, 2026 release) | Company-reported fiscal-quarter result; Micron also reports revenue across four business units. |
| Micron Technology | Fiscal year 2026, ended September 3, 2026 | $133.188 billion | Not stated here (Micron, September 30, 2026 release) | Company-reported fiscal-year result. |
| Samsung Electronics | Calendar Q2 2026, ended June 30, 2026 | KRW 171.5 trillion | KRW 89.5 trillion | Consolidated, company-wide figures. Samsung said its Memory Business had record quarterly revenue and operating profit but did not give a separate memory-only revenue figure in the cited release. |
| SK hynix | Calendar Q2 2026, ended June 30, 2026 | KRW 79.3187 trillion | KRW 60.5426 trillion; 76% operating margin | Preliminary, consolidated figures under K-IFRS, as reported by SK hynix. |
The currencies also differ: Micron reports in U.S. dollars, while Samsung and SK hynix report in Korean won. No dated exchange-rate basis is provided here, so converting the values would add a new assumption. Nor should Samsung’s company-wide revenue or operating profit be treated as memory-segment results.
Which memory company is biggest?
The reported numbers do not establish which company has the largest memory business. Micron’s fiscal-year revenue is a useful company-wide scale measure, but it is not aligned to the June quarter and is not presented as a single memory-only line. Samsung reports a record for its Memory Business without a separate memory revenue figure in the cited discussion. SK hynix’s Q2 revenue is consolidated rather than an independently stated memory-only comparison. A defensible ranking would require aligned periods and comparable segment revenue or market-share data; the three releases do not provide that.

How Micron’s memory businesses are organized
Micron’s fiscal Q4 2026 release divided revenue among four business units. These are company-reported fiscal-quarter figures, not a direct measure of comparable market share:
| Micron business unit | Fiscal Q4 2026 revenue |
|---|---|
| Cloud Memory | $16.283 billion |
| Core Data Center | $18.002 billion |
| Mobile and Client | $13.114 billion |
| Automotive and Embedded | $6.824 billion |
Micron says it supplies DRAM, NAND, and NOR. Its September 30, 2026 release also highlighted sampling 512GB DDR5 RDIMMs, qualifying high-speed server RDIMMs, growth in SOCAMM server memory, and PCIe Gen 5 and Gen 6 SSD products for customer applications. Those are Micron-reported product and customer-application milestones, not independent performance comparisons.

Who leads in HBM?
The cited releases show active HBM product activity at all three companies, but they do not establish an independent market-share leader or identify who will win future supply. Their milestones are not equivalent: one company’s shipment statement cannot be ranked against another’s samples or sales without comparable volumes, dates, and customer data.
| Company | HBM status described in its 2026 release |
|---|---|
| SK hynix | Reported that it began mass shipments of HBM4 in Q2 2026 and planned to ramp production in the second half of 2026 (July 29 release). |
| Samsung Electronics | Reported scaled HBM4 sales and shipments of HBM4E samples to major customers (July 30 release). |
| Micron Technology | The cited September 30 release summary does not specify an HBM shipment milestone; that omission does not establish that Micron had no HBM shipments. |
These are company-reported status updates. They do not disclose comparable shipment volumes, realized HBM revenue, or independently verified customer qualifications.

How their reported profitability differs
SK hynix’s 76% Q2 operating margin is specifically a preliminary, consolidated K-IFRS company figure. Samsung’s KRW 89.5 trillion operating profit is also company-wide; its Device Solutions division reported KRW 127.5 trillion in revenue and KRW 89.2 trillion in operating profit, but those are division—not memory-only—figures. Samsung separately described the Memory Business as having a record quarter without giving its standalone profit amount in the cited release. Micron’s release provides business-unit results and margins, but those should not be compared with whole-company figures without aligning the accounting basis and scope. The available figures therefore do not support a normalized memory-only profitability ranking.
What each company says is driving its position
Micron: broad memory demand across data center and other end markets
Micron reported record fiscal 2026 results and cited strength across its Cloud Memory, Core Data Center, Mobile and Client, and Automotive and Embedded units. Its CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said the company expected an even stronger fiscal 2027. That is management’s expectation, not a guaranteed outcome.

Samsung: server focus amid constrained capacity
Samsung said its Memory Business addressed AI demand with a primary focus on server products despite limited capacity. It also said H2 demand and undersupply conditions would support its outlook. These are Samsung’s characterizations and expectations, not independently established forecasts.
SK hynix: high-value AI-server memory and storage
SK hynix attributed Q2 profitability to high-value HBM, AI-server DRAM, and enterprise SSD sales. It also discussed SOCAMM2 and 321-layer NAND products. These are management-reported business drivers and product positioning; they do not by themselves demonstrate market share or customer qualification beyond the status the release states.

How to compare the three as an investor
This is a comparison of memory businesses and company disclosures, not a stock recommendation. The releases are useful for understanding current product priorities and reported results, but they do not provide aligned valuation data, standardized full-year profitability comparisons, or independent market-share estimates. Memory demand, pricing, and margins can change, and each company’s outlook is a forecast rather than a promise.
Quick Recap
- Compare the same reporting period: Micron’s fiscal Q4 or fiscal year is not the same period as Samsung’s and SK hynix’s calendar Q2.
- Match the business scope: distinguish memory-only results from consolidated company totals and broader divisions.
- Check the accounting basis and currency before comparing margins or converting revenue.
- Separate reported shipments and sales from samples, planned production ramps, and forward-looking expectations.
