The settlement restored Disney’s linear networks and opened the door to select Disney streaming services in certain DIRECTV packages or as separate offerings. What a subscriber gets today depends on the DIRECTV plan and its current eligibility terms.
How the blackout ended
Disney channels, including ESPN and ABC, went dark for DIRECTV customers on September 1, 2024. After nearly two weeks, Disney and DIRECTV announced an agreement in principle on September 14. Their joint statement described continued carriage of Disney entertainment, sports, and news networks, alongside select Disney direct-to-consumer services in certain DIRECTV packages or on an a la carte basis. The companies called it “a first-of-its-kind collaboration” offering more flexible options: their agreement announcement.
The original question of how long talks might last therefore has a definite historical answer: the blackout lasted from September 1 until the September 14 announcement. The public announcement gave the high-level scope, not the confidential financial terms.
What each company said during the dispute
The companies presented competing accounts of the bargaining. These statements are their public positions, not independent findings about private negotiations.

The available public statements do not establish the private negotiating details, including carriage fees or concessions, so those figures cannot be reliably compared.
What the agreement means for DIRECTV subscribers now
After the settlement, DIRECTV introduced genre packages, including MyEntertainment with Disney+ and Hulu Bundle Basic, and later announced ESPN streaming access for eligible customers. DIRECTV’s current app and streaming information lists Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN options with select plans; inclusion is not universal and can depend on plan and device conditions. The company also says included services do not replace existing subscriptions. Check DIRECTV’s current streaming-app information and the terms for the specific plan before changing a subscription or assuming a service is included.

- The exact DIRECTV plan and whether the household is eligible.
- Whether the plan includes the Disney linear channels the household watches.
- Which Disney streaming service, if any, is included and whether a device is required.
- How an included offer interacts with an existing subscription, which may remain separately managed.
- The current plan price and any offer conditions in effect when enrolling.
What the public record does not reveal
The announcement confirms that the dispute was resolved and describes the broad structure of the agreement. It does not disclose the confidential carriage fees, private concessions, or a neutral account of the bargaining rounds. Claims about those details should not be treated as established without separate documentation.
