CoreWeave completed its acquisition of AI developer platform Weights & Biases (W&B) on May 5, 2025. The companies said the deal would connect W&B’s tools for tracking, evaluating, and improving AI models with CoreWeave’s cloud infrastructure. The headline figure of $1.7 billion is not confirmed as the final purchase-accounting amount in the CoreWeave filings described here: a March 2025 filing reported approximately $1.4 billion in cash and stock consideration subject to adjustments, while the FY2025 10-K later reported a $1.029 billion total purchase price.
When did CoreWeave acquire Weights & Biases?
CoreWeave announced an agreement to acquire W&B on March 4, 2025. At that point, the deal was subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. CoreWeave announced that the acquisition was complete on May 5, 2025.
W&B is an AI developer platform used for work such as experiment tracking, model evaluation, and monitoring. CoreWeave provides cloud infrastructure and managed services. The acquisition brought the two businesses under common ownership; the companies described the combination as a way to connect AI development tools with infrastructure.
How much did CoreWeave pay for Weights & Biases?
The reported figures differ by filing date and accounting category. They should not be treated as interchangeable estimates of one final cash payment.

| CoreWeave Form 10-Q for the quarter ended March 31, 2025 | Approximately $1.4 billion | Cash and stock consideration, subject to purchase price adjustments. |
| CoreWeave FY2025 Form 10-K | $1.029 billion | Reported total purchase price: $96 million cash, $929 million fair value of Class A common stock and restricted stock awards, and $4 million fair value of replacement restricted stock units. |
The 10-K also describes $123 million in stock-based award compensation arrangements. Of that amount, $33 million was recognized in the purchase price; the filing describes the remainder as compensation expense over the awards’ service period. That is a separate accounting detail, not a reason to add the full $123 million to the reported $1.029 billion purchase price.
The reviewed SEC filings do not explain how the title’s $1.7 billion figure was derived. The March filing’s approximate, adjustment-sensitive consideration and the later 10-K’s purchase-accounting figure reflect different reporting stages and categories; the filings do not establish that either is directly comparable to the $1.7 billion headline.

Why did CoreWeave say it wanted W&B?
At announcement, the companies presented the deal as a way to link W&B’s tools for building, tuning, evaluating, and monitoring AI applications with CoreWeave infrastructure and managed cloud services. At closing, they said the combined platform was intended to help customers develop, deploy, and iterate AI faster. These are the companies’ stated strategic aims, not evidence that the acquisition has independently produced those results.
W&B co-founder and then-CEO Lukas Biewald said, “We have long admired CoreWeave.” The announcement also described W&B as an AI developer platform for model training and application evaluation and monitoring.

Is Weights & Biases still available, and do users have to move to CoreWeave cloud?
As of October 5, 2026, CoreWeave describes W&B as a product within CoreWeave Forge, with tools for experiment tracking, evaluation, and model improvement. CoreWeave says W&B remains cloud-agnostic, so the acquisition does not itself require customers to run their work on CoreWeave infrastructure.
CoreWeave’s current account guidance says that, as of September 30, 2026, Free, Pro, and Enterprise SaaS accounts sign in through CoreWeave Forge using their existing credentials. The company says self-hosted and dedicated-instance accounts remain unchanged, and existing contract pricing is not changing as part of the move to Forge. These are CoreWeave’s published statements; customers with account or contract questions should confirm the details that apply to their own arrangement.
