HPE and Veeam’s June 24, 2025 announcement centered on planned integration of Veeam Data Platform with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials. The vendors described image-based virtual-machine backup, protection across multiple hypervisors, and workload mobility as goals. The story has since widened to private-cloud and storage integrations, migration materials, and AI-focused resilience work—but a December 2025 release still described the Morpheus plug-in as beta, and the sources cited here do not confirm that it later reached general availability.
What the partnership means for Morpheus VM Essentials
The core of the June 2025 announcement is an intended connection between Veeam Data Platform and HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Software. HPE and Veeam said the integration would support image-based VM backup, protection across multiple hypervisors, and VM mobility, including migration and data portability from traditional hypervisor environments. These are vendor-announced capabilities, not independent test results or evidence that every configuration is supported.
For an enterprise considering Morpheus, the practical aim is to bring backup and recovery into a virtualization environment while retaining options for moving workloads between platforms. The announcement does not establish universal compatibility, customer deployment outcomes, or a specific migration timeline for any individual organization. Veeam’s June 24, 2025 announcement frames the collaboration as part of a broader hybrid-IT resilience strategy.
Can Veeam back up HPE Morpheus VMs?
Veeam’s December 3, 2025 release said a native integration plug-in for HPE Morpheus VM Essentials was in beta, with general availability expected in early 2026. It described hypervisor-based, image-level VM backup. That was a forward-looking target, not confirmation of a later GA release. The sources cited here do not verify current availability, supported versions, or feature limits.

Before treating the integration as ready for a production workload, an organization should confirm the present plug-in status and its specific support matrix with HPE and Veeam. Check the VM Essentials and Veeam versions, licensing, support entitlements, deployment model, recovery requirements, and any dependencies on storage or hypervisor configuration. The vendor announcement does not replace deployment-specific compatibility confirmation. Veeam’s December 2025 release also described work involving HPE Private Cloud Business Edition, StoreOnce, and Alletra.

The portfolio is broader than the Morpheus integration alone. Veeam Kasten addresses containerized and cloud-native workloads in the partnership narrative, while HPE Zerto is included in its resilience portfolio. HPE’s alliance page describes coverage spanning virtualized, containerized, cloud-native, physical, and cloud workloads, alongside infrastructure such as StoreOnce, Alletra, StoreEver, GreenLake, and Morpheus. HPE says the companies have worked together for over 10 years; that relationship history is HPE’s account. HPE’s Veeam alliance page

What the migration materials do—and do not—tell buyers
The June 2026 announcement described a guide for moving vSphere VMs to HPE Morpheus and partner-ready deployment materials for HPE Private Cloud PC3000. Those materials may help teams plan a path, but their existence does not by itself establish that a given workload can move without changes, that all dependencies are covered, or that backup and recovery will meet a particular service objective.

Veeam’s release also described a joint “Data Resilience by Design” framework introduced in 2025, and HPE cybersecurity and cyber-resilience transformation and readiness services. The December 2025 announcement named a Data Resilience and Security Posture workshop and a Disaster Recovery Capability Maturity Analysis. Current availability, geography, and terms for those services are not established by the announcements cited here, so organizations should confirm them directly with the vendors.
How to interpret performance and savings claims
The vendors’ announcements included figures that should be treated as attributed claims rather than independent comparative findings. In June 2025, Veeam and HPE cited potential VM license-cost reductions of up to 90%. In December 2025, Veeam claimed up to 60:1 data reduction for the stated StoreOnce configuration. Neither figure establishes a result for every customer, workload, licensing arrangement, or storage setup; the evidence cited here does not include an independent performance study.

For a business case, request assumptions and configuration details behind any estimate, then compare costs and recovery outcomes using the organization’s own workload mix, licensing, retention, data-change rates, and infrastructure. A maximum or “up to” figure is not a forecast of a specific deployment’s savings.

The partnership announcements describe intended integration scope, not an independent comparison with other backup or virtualization paths. Evaluate the proposed design against operational requirements rather than treating a partnership announcement as a proof of fit.

Later work also extends into AI infrastructure. In June 2026, Veeam described validated designs for HPE Private Cloud AI, with Veeam Data Platform and Kasten for virtualized and Kubernetes workloads, and collaboration on AI data preparation, governance, and resilience. Veeam said HPE Services was a pilot partner for its Data and AI Trust Maturity Model. These statements establish the vendors’ announced direction, not independent proof of AI workload outcomes.
