How Jasmine Jordan moved from basketball operations to Jordan Brand
She began with the Charlotte Hornets
Jordan studied sports management at Syracuse University and started her sports career as a coordinator of basketball operations with the Charlotte Hornets, according to Cheryl Robinson’s December 7, 2022 Forbes profile. The role focused on the needs of players and the front office.
She also earned a Predictive Index Assessment certificate. Forbes reported that the Hornets used the assessment during the draft to understand athletes across four areas: dominance, extraversion, patience and formality. That describes the team’s reported use of the tool; it is not evidence that these categories measure athletic performance.
Five seasons led to a broader role
After five seasons with the Hornets, Jordan wanted to broaden her skills and help create more opportunities for women in sports. She joined Nike’s Jordan Brand, initially managing its relationship with the Hornets, which Forbes described as the league’s only Jordan team at the time. She later worked with NBA players in the Southeast division and recruited female athletes.

What her reported sports-marketing work involved
In the 2022 Forbes profile, Jordan was described as a Jordan Brand field representative working with 13 WNBA players. That is a figure reported for the time of publication, not a current roster count. The account gives a picture of the judgment involved in athlete partnerships, but does not present those practices as a formal, published Jordan Brand policy.
- Watching how athletes respond to setbacks: Forbes says Jordan considered a player’s response to a loss.
- Reviewing public presentation: The profile says she looked at how players presented themselves on social media.
- Seeking outside perspectives: Jordan said she sought views from people who were not among a player’s biggest fans, rather than relying only on enthusiastic advocates.
These examples point to partnership work that involves more than on-court performance: how an athlete responds, communicates and may connect with an audience also matters.

How the Jess Sims partnership illustrates the role
A separate example came in Nike’s September 7, 2022 announcement that Jess Sims was joining the Jordan Brand family. Nike identified Sims as a Peloton instructor, New York Liberty in-game host and College GameDay host. It described the partnership as a way to amplify women’s voices and connect sport, fashion and culture.
The announcement identified Jordan as working in Jordan Brand Women’s Sports Marketing and quoted her welcoming Sims: “She is an athlete, an educator and a role model for young girls and woman all over the globe.” The announcement shows Jordan’s involvement in that partnership; it does not establish her exact current title or the full scope of her duties.

What preserving the Jordan Brand legacy means to her
Jordan’s account of legacy is not simply about repeating the past. In the Forbes interview, she noted that many younger consumers have never watched Michael Jordan play: “At the end of the day, he’s retired, and we’re entering the phase where these kids have never seen him play.” She added, “So now, bringing them into the Brand and bringing them into the family is even harder.”
That challenge makes athletes who can connect authentically with younger audiences important to the brand’s future. Jordan told Forbes, “Our consumers are keeping us honest.” She also said that her own legacy goal is tied to representation: “I’m building [my legacy] by championing women and speaking where they need to be heard.”

Jordan Brand’s basketball legacy also has a design dimension. Nike’s July 1, 2023 design feature describes performance basketball footwear as intended to support motion while evoking emotion on and off court, and calls the Air Jordan signature shoe the pinnacle expression of the brand. That offers context for the legacy Jordan works around; it does not indicate that she works in footwear design.

The detailed career account cited here is from December 2022, and Nike’s role label for Jordan appears in its September 2022 announcement. Those sources document her path and examples of her work, but they do not establish her exact title or full responsibilities as of October 5, 2026.

Forbes also reported that Jordan hoped to run the company one day and was working to learn its different areas. That was an ambition she expressed in 2022, not an announced succession plan.
