Circle’s 2025 IPO Debut: Did It Make CEO Jeremy Allaire a Billionaire?

Circle’s 2025 IPO drew a billionaire headline after CRCL surged on its first trading day. Here are the historical share prices, the basis for Forbes’ estimate and the company’s business context.

Circle Internet Group priced its IPO at $31 a share on June 4, 2025, then began trading on the New York Stock Exchange as CRCL the following day. Shares opened at $69, rose above $96 intraday and closed at $83.23. The surge helped produce a billionaire headline for co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire—but the figure was a dated estimate tied to Circle’s share price, not an audited measure of his personal wealth.

What happened when Circle went public?

Circle’s June 4, 2025 pricing announcement set the offering at $31 per share for 34 million Class A shares. Circle offered 14.8 million shares; existing shareholders offered the other 19.2 million. The company said trading was expected to begin June 5 on the NYSE under the ticker CRCL. Circle’s announcement is the source for the offer terms.

On June 5, the first trading session, the stock opened at $69, briefly rose above $96 and closed at $83.23, according to the Associated Press. These are historical first-day prices, not a current quote. The gap between the $31 offer price and the trading prices shows a sharp debut; it does not by itself show what later investors earned or establish the company’s long-term value.

The offering was described as the first IPO by a stablecoin issuer, not the first public listing by a crypto company. The AP compared it with Coinbase’s 2021 listing.

Did the IPO make Jeremy Allaire a billionaire?

Forbes Brasil reported on June 8, 2025, that Forbes estimated Allaire’s net worth at at least $1.7 billion using a Circle share price of $86. That is the basis for the billionaire headline. It was an estimate made at a particular stock price—not a fixed figure or an audited account of Allaire’s assets and liabilities. Forbes Brasil’s report gives the contemporaneous estimate.

A later Forbes profile displayed a real-time estimate of $1.7 billion as of September 10, 2026. That, too, is a dated estimate whose value can change with the stock price and Forbes’ methodology; it should not be read as a verified personal balance sheet.

A separate ownership disclosure provides context but does not verify a net-worth total. In a Schedule 13G filed August 13, 2025, Allaire reported beneficial ownership of 18,494,820 shares, or 8.1399%, under the filing’s stated assumptions and with a June 30, 2025 event date. The SEC filing reports share ownership, not all of a person’s assets, debts or other financial interests.

What does Circle do besides issue USDC?

Circle describes itself as a financial technology firm and stablecoin network operator. Its main stablecoins include USDC, referenced to the U.S. dollar, and EURC, referenced to the euro. Circle says the coins are issued through regulated affiliates; the AP describes them as redeemable one-to-one for the corresponding fiat currency. Circle’s SEC registration statement says USDC reserves are backed by highly liquid cash and cash equivalents, with examples reported by the AP including cash, short-dated U.S. Treasuries and overnight Treasury repurchase agreements. These descriptions should not be mistaken for a claim that stablecoins are insured bank deposits. See Circle’s SEC registration statement and the AP report.

Circle’s S-1, citing CoinMarketCap, put USDC at 28% of stablecoin circulation by market share as of June 30, 2025. That is a dated company-filing figure, not a current market-share reading. The S-1 gives the date and attribution.

What did Circle’s financial results show?

Circle’s Q2 2025 filing showed growth alongside a substantial net loss. For the quarter, the company reported $658 million in revenue and reserve income, up 53% year over year, and $61.3 billion of USDC in circulation at quarter end. It also reported a $482 million net loss. Circle said that loss was significantly affected by $591 million in IPO-related non-cash charges, including stock compensation and a change in the fair value of convertible debt. The figures come from Circle’s Q2 2025 results filed with the SEC.

Revenue and reserve income are not the same as profit: costs, including distribution-related expenses, matter to the result. Circle’s figures therefore tell a more complicated story than either the IPO surge or revenue growth alone. In its earnings release, CEO Jeremy Allaire called the quarter one of “sustained growth and adoption”; that is management’s characterization, alongside the reported loss.

How to read the billionaire headline

  • The IPO price was $31. That was the offer price announced June 4, 2025, not the price at which all investors necessarily bought shares.
  • The first-day market prices were much higher. The June 5 open, intraday high and close describe one trading session, not subsequent performance.
  • The wealth figure was an estimate. Forbes’ $1.7 billion estimate used an $86 share price in June 2025; later estimates can change and do not amount to an audited personal balance sheet.
  • The company’s performance requires more than one metric. USDC circulation and revenue growth should be considered alongside expenses and the reported net loss.
