Xiaomi’s YU7 gives Tesla a serious new rival in China: it launched in 2025 below the then-listed prices of comparable Model Y versions, and Xiaomi reported 232,000 cumulative YU7 Series deliveries by April 30, 2026. That is meaningful scale, but it does not prove the YU7 caused Tesla sales to fall. For buyers, the useful comparison is specific to date and trim—and separates official specifications from independently measured results.
Why the YU7 is a credible Tesla challenge
Xiaomi unveiled the YU7 on May 22, 2025, as its first SUV. The mid-to-large electric SUV was aimed at the China-market Tesla Model Y. Xiaomi lists its dimensions as 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm high, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Xiaomi’s debut announcement establishes the vehicle’s size and positioning; those measurements alone do not determine which SUV offers more usable cabin or cargo space.
The commercial case is stronger than a launch-day comparison alone. Xiaomi said the YU7 Series reached 232,000 cumulative deliveries in its first 10 months, as of April 30, 2026, citing CPCA. This is a substantial delivery milestone, but it is a cumulative total—not a monthly, like-for-like comparison with Model Y sales, and it does not establish that Tesla lost a particular number of buyers to Xiaomi. Xiaomi’s Q1 2026 report provides the figure.
Xiaomi also reported 335 smart EV sales centers across 92 mainland China cities as of June 30, 2025. That gives context for the company’s domestic retail reach at that date, not proof of YU7 availability outside mainland China. Its 2025 interim report states the network figures.

What the launch-era price and specification comparison shows
At the YU7’s June 26, 2025 launch, CnEVPost reported Xiaomi list prices of RMB 253,500 for Standard, RMB 279,900 for Pro and RMB 329,900 for Max. The same report listed the China-market Model Y RWD at RMB 263,500 and Long Range AWD at RMB 313,500. These dated list prices made the entry YU7 cheaper than the listed RWD Model Y, while the YU7 Max was more expensive than the listed Long Range AWD. They are not current quotes, transaction prices or a complete like-for-like trim comparison. CnEVPost’s launch report supplies the date and prices.
| Vehicle and launch-era version | China list price reported June 26, 2025 | Battery and stated range |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi YU7 Standard | RMB 253,500 | 96.3 kWh LFP; 835 km CLTC |
| Xiaomi YU7 Pro | RMB 279,900 | 96.3 kWh LFP; 770 km CLTC |
| Xiaomi YU7 Max | RMB 329,900 | 101.7 kWh ternary lithium; 760 km CLTC |
| Tesla Model Y RWD | RMB 263,500 | 593 km CLTC |
| Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD | RMB 313,500 | 719 km CLTC |
The range figures in the table are the CLTC figures reported in the launch comparison, not real-world driving results. Differences in test cycles, equipment, weather, speed and driving conditions can make official range figures a poor predictor of an individual trip. Xiaomi’s reported launch specifications showed higher CLTC range for the original YU7 Standard than the listed Model Y versions, but the YU7 Pro and Max figures did not exceed the 719 km listed for the Long Range AWD.
The launch report also described the YU7’s electrical system as 800-volt and the Model Y’s as 400-volt, alongside model-specific battery and acceleration claims. Those are technical comparisons reported at launch, not independently verified outcomes for every charging stop or driving scenario. Charging performance depends on the vehicle version, charger capability and conditions; a voltage architecture by itself does not tell a buyer how quickly a particular trip can be completed.
Do not treat the original 2025 lineup as current
Xiaomi’s lineup changed in 2026, so the launch prices and Standard specifications above should not be used as today’s offer or applied to later variants. Xiaomi’s Q1 2026 report says a new Standard version started at RMB 233,500 with a company-stated CLTC range of 643 km. It also says the YU7 GT launched May 21, 2026 at RMB 389,900, with a 101.7 kWh battery, a stated CLTC range of 705 km and 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.92 seconds. These specifications describe different versions from the 2025 Standard, Pro and Max; confirm current trim availability and pricing with Xiaomi before making a purchase decision.
What the numbers mean for buyers—and for Tesla
For Tesla, the YU7’s combination of a lower launch entry price, substantial delivery volume and Xiaomi’s domestic sales network makes it a credible competitive threat in China. But the available figures do not show how many Model Y customers switched to Xiaomi, whether Model Y sales declined because of the YU7, or how the two brands’ market shares changed on a comparable basis.

The broader market also matters. Xiaomi’s 2026 interim report says mainland China passenger-vehicle retail volume fell 20% year over year in the first half of 2026. That indicates a difficult market backdrop; it does not identify which manufacturer gained or lost share or establish a cause for either company’s results. The interim report is the source for this market figure.
Xiaomi also reported that the YU7 Series ranked first among one-year major pure-electric vehicles in the July 2026 China Vehicle Value Retention Ratio Research Report, with 82.8% value retention. The ranking is attributed to the China Automobile Dealers Association and Jingzhengu, as reported by Xiaomi. It is a resale-value measure—not a measure of sales, reliability or proof of future resale prices for an individual owner.

A useful buying comparison needs to match versions and dates rather than place the two model names side by side. Before deciding, check:

- Price: Compare current China-market list prices and the actual eligible incentives or transaction terms for the same purchase date.
- Trim and drivetrain: Match comparable equipment and rear- or all-wheel-drive versions; do not assume similarly named trims have equivalent hardware.
- Range basis: Record the range test cycle next to every figure. The launch numbers above are CLTC estimates, not independently measured real-world range.
- Space: Compare dimensions and, where available, usable passenger and cargo measurements—not exterior size alone.
- Charging: Check the specific version’s charging capability and the availability of compatible charging facilities along routes you use.
- Ownership terms: Verify warranty, service access, delivery timing and total ownership cost for your location and chosen version.
At the 2025 launch, Lei Jun said “the Xiaomi SUV outperforms the Tesla SUV in every aspect.” That is the Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO’s promotional characterization, not an independent finding: “every aspect” has no defined comparison unless the specific versions, measures and conditions are stated.
