For a membership question, call Experian at 1-866-617-1894 during its listed support hours, or sign in to chat with EVA, its virtual assistant. For a question or dispute about your personal credit report, use the phone number printed on the report instead; Experian says you will need the report number when calling about it. Fraud and identity-theft assistance has a separate line: 1-888-397-3742.

Which Experian contact route should you use?

Choose the channel by the kind of help you need. Experian’s official contact page lists membership support, chat, and fraud assistance; its consumer FAQ explains the report-specific phone route.

Issue Route What to have ready or know
Membership support Call 1-866-617-1894 or sign in to chat with EVA, Experian’s virtual assistant. Phone hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Central Time, and Saturday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Central Time. EVA chat is listed as available 24/7.
Personal credit report question or dispute Call the number printed on your credit report. For a phone dispute, Experian directs consumers to that number. Have the report number ready; Experian says callers must enter it to speak to a representative about the report.
Fraud or identity theft Call 1-888-397-3742 or use Experian’s online help. Experian says fraud alerts and security freezes can be added online or by phone.
Security freeze Manage it through Experian’s online freeze service or call 1-888-397-3742 to add or remove a freeze. Experian describes online management as the easiest and quickest route.
Membership support by mail Experian.com, Attn. Customer Care, PO Box 2390, Allen, TX 75013. Use the listed address for membership support.

How do you reach a representative about your credit report?

Get a copy of your personal credit report, then call the phone number shown on it. Experian’s consumer FAQ says callers must enter the report number to speak with a representative about their personal credit report. Keep the report available so you can provide that number when prompted.

This is different from calling the membership line: Experian specifically directs report questions and phone disputes to the number on the report. Its contact page says it can best assist consumers who have received a copy of their personal credit report.

Can you use chat or online self-service instead?

Experian lists chat with EVA, its virtual assistant, as available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The contact page directs users to sign in to start a chat. Experian also offers online help for common needs such as disputes, fraud alerts, identity theft, and freezes. What should you avoid when seeking personal support?

Do not use Experian’s business inquiry form for a personal credit or membership issue. Experian’s business inquiries page says that form is for businesses and directs consumers to personal-services contacts instead.

Experian does not establish a guaranteed keypad shortcut or spoken phrase for bypassing its phone menu, nor does it publish a typical hold time or assured escalation path in the cited contact information. Follow the prompts for the route you selected rather than relying on an unverified shortcut.
