Eqonomize! is free desktop personal accounting software for small households. It uses double-entry bookkeeping to track income, expenses, transfers and investments, with tools for budgets, scheduled transactions, multiple currencies and reports. The current release listed by the project is version 1.5.13, released September 7, 2026.
What Eqonomize! does
Eqonomize! is designed for household bookkeeping, rather than simply recording a running list of spending. Its double-entry accounting model records transactions across accounts, helping users keep a structured record of where money comes from and where it goes. The project describes the software as cross-platform and focused on efficiency and ease of use for small households. See the official homepage for the project’s overview and release information.
The software supports expense, income, transfer and security transactions. Its transaction tools include split entries, refunds and repayments, recurring transactions, tags and associated files. Users can reconcile accounts and record loans or debts, including interest and fees. The project’s feature list provides the detailed inventory.
Budgets, currencies, investments and reports
Budgeting and scheduled transactions
Budgets help organize planned spending, while scheduled transactions can represent recurring activity. These features are useful for households that want to compare their recorded finances with plans and account for repeating entries.

Multiple currencies and securities
Accounts can use selectable currencies, and the program documents support for security transactions and investments. The homepage also describes estimates of future account values. These capabilities may suit households tracking accounts in more than one currency or recording investments alongside everyday finances.
Reconciliation and reporting
Reconciliation supports checking recorded account activity against an external statement. Transaction reports, descriptive tables and charts provide ways to inspect financial activity and summarize it.

Who may find it useful
Eqonomize! is worth considering if you want detailed household records and are comfortable working with double-entry bookkeeping. Its combination of budgets, recurring entries, reconciliation, loans, securities and currency options covers more than basic income-and-expense tracking.
- Consider whether you want to enter and classify transactions yourself or require an automated, bank-connected workflow. The project pages reviewed document accounting features and downloads but do not establish whether bank feeds or cloud synchronization are available.
- Check that the available desktop installation suits your operating system and that its currency and investment features match your needs.
- If you rely on importing or exporting data, consult the manual’s coverage and confirm that its formats fit your existing workflow. The online manual is labeled version 1.0.0; it should not be assumed to document every detail of release 1.5.13.

The project’s download page says the developer finds Eqonomize! stable in everyday use, but also cautions: “Eqonomize! definitely needs more testing and no guarantees whatsoever are given.” Treat that as the project’s own qualification, not an independent reliability assessment.
The online manual is labeled version 1.0.0. It covers core accounting workflows, transactions, securities, currencies, statistics and import/export, but its version label is older than the current release cited above.
Questions to settle before choosing it
Before adopting Eqonomize!, decide how much bookkeeping detail you want, whether your operating system is supported, and whether you need its specific budget, recurring-transaction, currency or investment tools. Also check your import/export requirements against the manual and consider whether its documentation and the project’s stated testing caveat fit your expectations.
