It pays off when the delivery fees, fuel discounts and subscription costs you genuinely avoid add up to more than your membership cost: $98 a year or $12.95 a month, before applicable tax. Calculate the value of benefits you will actually use—not the advertised maximum—and compare it with the cost for the same period.
Calculate your personal break-even point
For a full year, use this calculation:
Annual net value = delivery fees avoided + eligible fuel discounts earned + streaming fees displaced + other costs avoided − ($98 + applicable tax).
If the result is above zero, Walmart+ paid off on those assumptions; if it is below zero, it did not. Count a benefit only when it saves you money you otherwise would have spent. Your ordinary Walmart purchases are not savings just because you are a member.
For a shorter membership, compare benefits over that same period with the monthly cost. At the listed $12.95 monthly rate, 12 payments total $155.40 before applicable tax. The $98 annual option costs less than 12 monthly payments, but it makes sense only if you expect to keep the membership for the year. Walmart lists both prices on its membership help page.

How to value the benefits you use
Delivery: count fees you would actually have paid
Multiply the number of eligible orders on which membership saves you a fee by the fee you would otherwise have paid. Walmart estimates up to $9.95 saved on Express Delivery fees, but availability and the comparison can vary by location; do not apply that amount to every order. Eligible scheduled store delivery generally requires a $35 minimum, and restrictions, time-slot availability, or speed-related and below-minimum fees may affect the cost. Free shipping also has eligibility limits and excludes most Marketplace items. The $35 minimum is a condition, not a saving.
Do not treat delivery as eliminating tips, item prices, taxes, or every other charge. Walmart’s terms of use, updated September 28, 2026, caution that savings calculations may omit taxes, tips, third-party fees, delivery minimums and other charges.

Fuel: use your eligible gallons and local stations
Walmart advertises a 10-cent-per-gallon discount at participating stations, with member fuel prices also available at Sam’s Club. At that displayed rate, 980 eligible gallons in a year produce $98 in nominal discounts ($0.10 × 980), before tax. This is arithmetic, not a forecast of how much a typical household drives or buys.
Only count gallons bought at participating stations you would actually use, and compare the discounted price with realistic alternatives nearby. The offer is not guaranteed at every station or location; availability and applicable discounts can vary and change. Walmart’s membership page lists current benefit details, while its terms note that fuel savings can depend on location and state rules.

Streaming: count a subscription only if it replaces one
The benefit is a choice of one ad-supported service at a time: Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential. Members can select every 90 days, subject to registration and terms. Count the cost only if you would otherwise pay for the selected plan; the benefit is not cash back. Walmart advertises up to $109 a year in streaming savings, but that is a maximum value, not an automatic credit or guaranteed household saving.
Other benefits: include only costs you can identify
Add another benefit only when you can name the cost it prevents and show that you would otherwise incur that cost. Avoid counting advertised values at face value when you would not have bought the service or paid the fee.

What Walmart’s savings averages do—and do not—show
Walmart reports average annual savings of $382 among annual members with at least 12 months of membership. The estimate excludes the $98 annual fee and compares savings with nonmember prices or fees. It describes that defined group, not a promised result for an individual shopper.
In a September 2026 corporate release, Walmart reported average annual fuel savings of $109 among members with at least 12 months who used the fuel benefit at least weekly during March 2025–March 2026. That is a selected group of frequent users, not a typical-member guarantee. The same release said a CITGO addition expanded the program to over 17,000 participating locations; station coverage can change, so check local participation before using a national figure in your own estimate. Check eligibility and terms before you enroll
- Walmart says membership is available to customers with a U.S. billing address and certain territories; benefits are limited in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
- Free scheduled delivery as fast as today generally requires an eligible order of at least $35 and an available $0-fee time slot.
- Fuel participation and discounts vary by location and may be affected by state rules. Confirm that stations you use participate.
- A trial may automatically renew into a paid term. Check the offer’s terms and cancellation timing before starting one.
