In February 2026, some customers reported that Amazon canceled or delayed preorders for physical Resident Evil Requiem Deluxe and Steelbook Deluxe editions shortly before the game’s February 27 release. Buyers quoted cancellation notices citing supplier unavailability, but Amazon did not publicly confirm the cause in the coverage reviewed, and no verified total of affected orders is available. The reports describe a past incident, not a confirmed current wave of cancellations.
What happened to the preorders?
Customer reports of cancellations and delays appeared on February 11–13, 2026, just over two weeks before launch. GameWatcher reported the cancellations and said it had contacted Capcom; its report did not include a response. GamingBible quoted customer posts and described the number of affected orders as unspecified. NJ.com reported on February 16–17 that some buyers were being offered standard-edition alternatives and that some replacement orders had estimated delivery dates around March 16.
The reported explanation came from buyers’ accounts of Amazon’s notices, not an official Amazon statement. One Reddit user quoted by GamingBible wrote: “Just got a email that my RE9 deluxe order was cancelled by Amazon since there’s none left from the supplier (which is ridiculous) so anyone that hopped on during the ‘restock’ should be on the lookout for cancellation emails in the future,” reads the post from user Jacquesoffer. That customer-reported wording does not establish whether the underlying problem was supplier supply, preorder allocation, or another fulfillment issue.
The available reporting establishes that multiple customers described problems. It does not establish how many orders were affected, whether all platforms or countries were involved, or whether every buyer received the same outcome.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Was an order canceled or only delayed?
The reports describe different buyer-specific outcomes: some said their orders were canceled, while others reported delays or changed orders. A replacement estimate around March 16 appeared in contemporaneous coverage, but it was an estimate at the time, not a delivery guarantee. A report about other customers’ orders cannot tell you what happened to yours.
For an individual order, check the order’s current status and messages in your Amazon account, and read any email against the order details before deciding whether to accept a substitute or place another order. The February reports do not establish current stock, prices, sellers, or shipping dates.

What was included in each edition?
Capcom opened preorders on November 26, 2025, and announced the game for PlayStation 5, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Epic Games Store, with a February 27, 2026 release date. Its edition descriptions distinguish the physical Steelbook Deluxe package from other versions:
| Edition | What Capcom described | Physical collector items |
|---|---|---|
| Deluxe Edition | Full game, five costumes, four weapon skins, two charms, two screen filters, a custom sound pack, and additional in-game files. | Capcom’s announcement does not list a steelbook or lenticular card for this edition. |
| Steelbook Deluxe Edition | Deluxe Edition contents, plus the Steelbook package items. | A steelbook case and limited-edition lenticular card. |
| Amazon Exclusive Edition | Contemporaneous coverage described some replacement offers as including a poster. | A poster is not the steelbook case and lenticular card specified for the Steelbook Deluxe Edition. |
Capcom’s preorder announcement establishes the Steelbook Deluxe contents. The poster detail and replacement reports came from customer accounts and news coverage, rather than a universal replacement policy.

During the February incident, NJ.com reported standard-edition alternatives at Amazon and Walmart. GameWatcher reported an Amazon Exclusive Edition listing for PS5 at $69.99 with a March 16 estimate, while other coverage described delayed orders and poster substitutions. Those were dated reports and estimates around launch; they are not current offers, prices, stock confirmations, or promised delivery dates.

If considering a replacement or another listing, compare the specific product and fulfillment terms rather than relying on “Deluxe” in the name alone:
- Edition contents: Confirm whether the listing explicitly names the Steelbook Deluxe Edition and includes the steelbook case and lenticular card, if those are the items you want.
- Format and platform: Check whether it is physical or digital and whether it matches your console or PC platform. A digital Deluxe Kit is not a physical collector package.
- Seller and delivery: Review who is selling and fulfilling the item, its stated dispatch and delivery dates, and the cancellation or return terms shown for that order.
- Price and substitution: Compare the actual price and included physical bonus. A standard edition or poster-bundled version may not be an equivalent replacement for the Steelbook Deluxe package.
Capcom’s announcement linked to retailer destinations, and contemporary coverage discussed Amazon and Walmart alternatives, but neither establishes what is available now. A third-party tracker, NowInStock, recorded dated PS5 listing observations in September 2026; tracker history is not confirmation of live Amazon inventory.

What later sales figures do—and do not—show
Capcom said worldwide sales of Resident Evil Requiem exceeded six million units by March 16, 2026, after its February 27 release. That is a sales milestone, not a count of Amazon preorder cancellations or evidence about which orders were fulfilled. Capcom also reported more than 183 million cumulative Resident Evil series units as of December 31, 2025; that franchise figure likewise does not clarify the preorder incident. See Capcom’s March 16 sales announcement.
