Apple has not disclosed how many Vision Pro headsets it has sold. The headline figure of fewer than 100,000 refers to an IDC estimate of 45,000 shipments in the fourth quarter of 2025—not a verified lifetime sales total. A separate estimate puts 2024 shipments at about 390,000, so the available figures do not support saying that fewer than 100,000 Vision Pro units have ever sold.
How many Apple Vision Pro units have been sold?
There is no official cumulative unit count in the sources reviewed. Apple’s January 2026 fiscal results did not disclose Vision Pro unit sales, and The Guardian reported that Apple had not released sales figures for the headset. The public numbers below are third-party shipment estimates, not confirmed purchases by end customers.

Because the estimates cover different periods and the first three quarters of 2025 are missing, they cannot establish a full-year 2025 total or a lifetime total. Nor should shipments be relabeled as sales: shipments indicate units sent into distribution, while end-customer sales count units actually bought by users.
Why the “less than 100,000 sales” claim needs context
The 45,000 figure is below 100,000, but only for Q4 2025. It is not evidence that fewer than 100,000 Vision Pro headsets have sold altogether. In fact, the separate estimate of about 390,000 shipments in 2024 alone makes that cumulative interpretation inconsistent with the reported estimates, while still not providing an official sales count.

The specific report implied by the assignment’s headline is not identified in the available reporting. The defensible description is therefore a reported low-quarterly-shipment figure, not a confirmed lifetime-sales milestone.
What may have limited demand
The Guardian said analysts cited the headset’s price, form factor, and limited native visionOS app catalog as reasons for limited uptake. Those are analysts’ explanations, not independently established causes or a quantified breakdown of why buyers did—or did not—purchase the device. The same report described production cuts as reported and noted Apple had not commented on them.

Price and intended buyer
Apple announced the M5 Vision Pro on October 15, 2025, with a U.S. starting price of $3,499 and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. That entry price places it well outside an ordinary impulse purchase; however, the cited reporting does not measure how much price alone affected demand. Form factor
The Guardian’s cited analysts also pointed to form factor. That may matter to adoption because a headset is worn on the face rather than used like a phone or laptop, but the available sources do not quantify comfort, fit, or wear time as causes of the shipment estimate.

Native apps versus the broader catalog
Apple said in October 2025 that more than 3,000 apps were built for visionOS, while over 1 million apps were available overall. Those figures describe different categories: the first is the native spatial-app catalog, while the second is the wider available-app ecosystem. Neither number indicates how many people bought a Vision Pro or how often they use it. Apple’s announcement supplies the figures.
What changed with the M5 model
Apple announced the M5 version on October 15, 2025. The company said it rendered 10 percent more pixels than the previous generation and supported refresh rates up to 120Hz. Apple also made battery-life statements based on its own testing; those are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements. These product specifications describe the newer model, but they do not show that demand or sales increased.

Apple vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing Bob Borchers described the M5 model as delivering faster performance, sharper details, and more battery life. That was Apple’s promotional statement, not evidence about the headset’s market performance. Apple Newsroom, October 15, 2025.

For a personal-finance reader considering the device, the reported figures are a signal of uncertain adoption, not a direct measure of whether it is worth buying. The U.S. M5 starting price was $3,499 at announcement; current pricing and availability may differ by region and date. The evidence cited here does not establish resale values, ownership costs, or how well the headset holds its value.
