It was scheduled to leave sale on September 30, 2024, according to IGN. That deadline has passed. Techland had promised that owners of the Ultimate Edition would receive Dying Light: The Beast at no extra charge; the contemporary report said owners, and people who bought or upgraded before the deadline, would retain that benefit.
Why did Techland remove the Ultimate Edition?
When Techland announced Dying Light: The Beast on August 20, 2024, it said the game would be available at no extra charge to owners of Dying Light 2 Stay Human Ultimate Edition. Techland explained that The Beast began as the planned second story DLC for Dying Light 2 before growing into a standalone adventure. The announcement described the entitlement this way: “Dying Light: The Beast will be available for no extra charge for owners of the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 Stay Human.” Techland’s announcement.
IGN reported on August 26, 2024 that the Ultimate Edition would be removed from sale on September 30, 2024. The date is based on IGN’s contemporaneous report; the official Techland announcement verifies the entitlement, but not that specific delisting date. IGN’s report.
Do Ultimate Edition owners get Dying Light: The Beast for free?
Techland’s promise applied to owners of the Ultimate Edition, not to every player who owned Dying Light 2. IGN reported that existing owners, as well as people who purchased or upgraded to Ultimate Edition before the September 30, 2024 deadline, would keep the promised benefits. The deadline is long past, so buying another current edition of Dying Light 2 now should not be treated as a way to obtain that historical entitlement.
