GameStop accepts selected games, consoles, controllers, phones, tablets, and other electronics for cash or store credit at participating U.S. and Guam locations. Eligibility, required parts, condition, and final value depend on the item and store; an online estimate is not a guaranteed offer. Check the exact item and location before you go, and bring the functional components needed to use it.
Which items can you trade in?
GameStop’s trade program covers select products at select stores, not every item at every location. Search for the exact game, model, or device on GameStop’s trade-in page and confirm that a nearby participating store accepts it before making a trip. Availability and displayed values can change.
The store makes the final decision about eligibility, condition, and value. GameStop’s trade-in terms say, “Product condition and trade value are determined by us in our sole discretion.” The FAQ likewise says eligibility and final value are determined at the register.
What do you need to bring?
Bring the item and the functional components needed to operate it. GameStop’s trade-in FAQ, last updated May 26, 2026, puts the rule this way: “If it came with your original purchase and is required to use the item, bring it.” For a console, that can include its original controller, power cable, HDMI cable, and other included cords or chargers. Requirements vary by product.

Original packaging, printed manuals, paper inserts, and promotional materials are not generally required under the FAQ’s instructions. That does not mean functional parts can be left behind: missing components may reduce an offer or cause the store to decline the trade. If you are unsure whether an accessory is required, ask the store before visiting; customer service cannot override an in-store decision about missing components.
How to prepare a phone, tablet, or other device
Back up or transfer anything you want to keep, then remove personal and sensitive information before trading in a device. GameStop’s trade guidance also says to charge the device, remove SIM and memory cards, and take out accessories or other items that were not originally part of it. Its terms disclaim claims related to contents and data on a traded device.

- Back up or transfer wanted data before deleting it.
- Remove SIM cards and memory cards.
- Remove accessories that are not part of the original item.
- Charge the device so the store can assess it.
How do cash, store credit, and Pro benefits work?
For an eligible item, GameStop may display separate cash and store-credit amounts. The available payment options and amounts depend on the item and current offer, and the register assessment controls the final value. Do not assume that a displayed quote is guaranteed.
GameStop Pro’s terms list an extra 10% trade-in credit for games and accessories and an extra 5% for graded collectibles, subject to exclusions. These listed benefits are category-specific: the 10% games-and-accessories benefit should not be treated as applying to consoles or all electronics. Check the current GameStop Pro terms on the day of the trade.

Promotions have separate eligibility rules. For example, GameStop’s promotions and exclusions page may list an in-store extra-credit offer for eligible games traded toward a new game, with credit-only and other restrictions, alongside offers for selected hardware. Offers, exclusions, and availability can change; read the terms for the specific promotion rather than assuming it applies to every trade.

Before-you-go checklist
- Look up the exact game, model, or device on the trade-in page, then confirm the nearby store accepts it.
- Bring the item and the functional parts required to operate it. For consoles, check for the controller, power cable, HDMI cable, and any other included cords or chargers.
- Do not worry about bringing the original box or paper manual under the FAQ’s general guidance.
- For an electronic device, charge it, back up wanted data, delete personal information, and remove SIM and memory cards.
- Check whether the offer is cash or store credit, and read any Pro or promotional restrictions that apply.
- If you saved a trade summary or estimate, check its stated expiration. A sample GameStop listing says displayed prices are valid that day and trades are subject to manager approval; that sample does not establish a permanent expiration rule for every item.
- Call or contact the store about an unusual or missing component before making the trip.
