Both have risen at times, but neither follows one uniform upward path. Recent retail increases have varied sharply by material, and resale values surged during the pandemic-era run-up before correcting unevenly.
Why Rolex retail prices have gone up
There is no single percentage that describes Rolex price increases. Adjustments vary by model, material, country and date. The available examples point to precious-metal costs and currency realignment as important contexts, but they do not establish a complete year-by-year official price history or Rolex’s internal reasoning for every change.

Precious-metal costs
A January 2025 WatchPro report said gold had risen 33% in Swiss-franc terms during 2024, from roughly CHF 1,750 per ounce at the start of the year to CHF 2,334 at year-end. It reported Rolex retail adjustments of up to 15% on gold watches, 1% on platinum and 3% on steel. The contrast makes higher gold costs a strong context for the larger gold-watch adjustment; it does not prove the company’s rationale for every model or year. WatchPro said Rolex had not commented on those changes.
Country-specific examples show why percentages need context. On 2 January 2025, Spanish publication Cinco Días reported French-market prices in euros: a 40mm yellow-gold Day-Date with a black dial rose from €41,000 to €44,200, and a yellow-gold GMT-Master II from €41,300 to €44,600. It reported a steel Daytona at €16,000, up from €15,500, and a Submariner at €9,500 after an increase of about 1.6%. These are dated French-market examples, not current prices or a guide to prices in other countries.

Currency and country
Exchange-rate changes can leave luxury watches priced differently across countries, prompting brands to realign their local list prices. A Watches of Switzerland Group Registration Document, published in 2019, records Rolex UK sterling list-price increases of 10% across models on 1 November 2016 and 5% across models on 30 September 2018. The filing explains that currency movements can create substantial international price differences and describes how brands seek to realign global list prices. These historical UK examples are not evidence of a fixed annual increase.
Demand and economic conditions
The same filing describes luxury watches as discretionary purchases whose demand is sensitive to consumer spending and economic conditions. Strong demand and limited availability can contribute to pressure in the retail and resale markets, but that industry context does not show that Rolex uses a particular demand formula to set each retail adjustment. The sources here also do not establish that Rolex raises official prices to capture secondary-market premiums.
What happened to Rolex prices on the secondary market
Pre-owned prices are shaped by actual buyer and seller activity, not just the official price list. A marketplace analysis and a dealer’s completed-sale history measure different things, so their numbers should not be combined into one continuous price series.
Chrono24’s broad market analysis
Chrono24’s analysis reports that overall Rolex secondary-market prices rose 28% from May 2020 to May 2025. That long-window increase includes a pronounced run-up: Chrono24 says prices for models and references consolidated from April 2022, returned roughly to autumn-2021 levels, and then remained comparatively stable. For the later period from April 2025 to April 2026, it reports growth of around 2%. These are Chrono24 marketplace figures for its defined periods, not changes in Rolex’s official retail prices.

One reference can follow a different path
Bob’s Watches’ historical transaction data for the steel Daytona illustrates how much model histories can diverge. The dealer reports median completed transaction prices for the 116500 reference of about $23,000 in 2020, nearly $40,000 in 2022, below $29,000 in 2024 and 2025, and about $31,000 in 2026 year to date. Its newer 126500 reference followed a different path over its shorter observed period: approximately $33,000 in 2024, $35,000 in 2025 and $37,400 in 2026 year to date. These are Bob’s Watches’ own transactions, not a market-wide average or a promise of future appreciation.

Before deciding that a Rolex has become more expensive—or that a particular model has appreciated—check what each figure represents:
- Retail or resale: An official list price is not the same as a secondary-market asking price or a completed transaction.
- Market and date: Match the country, currency and date. A French price in euros cannot be read as a UK or US price.
- Exact reference and generation: A broad brand-level index can conceal very different histories for individual references.
- Material: Steel, platinum and gold have not necessarily received the same retail adjustment.
- Data method: Identify whether the figure is an official list price, marketplace analysis, asking price or a dealer’s completed-sale data.
Rolex’s official Submariner collection page confirms the model family, but it does not supply a complete historical price series. The dated reports and transaction histories above likewise cannot establish a complete official year-by-year list-price record.
