Worldwide server-market spending grew 30.7% year over year in Q1 2026, while server units grew 3.3%, according to IDC. The gap matters: “sales” here means the value of the market, not a comparable surge in the number of machines shipped. AI systems are lifting prices and spending, and forecasts point to further growth—but power, components and policy can slow or redirect deployments.
Why server-market spending is rising faster than shipments
More of the money is going toward high-value, AI-optimized systems. In Gartner’s Q3 2025 figures, worldwide server shipments rose 1.5% year over year to 3.08 million units, while vendor revenue climbed 57.3% to $97.1 billion. Gartner also reported that the average selling price of AI-optimized servers rose 46.4% in that quarter. These measures show why revenue growth should not be read as equivalent growth in physical server volume. Gartner’s Q3 2025 results
AI workloads require expensive accelerators and increasingly integrated systems. Large cloud providers and hyperscalers are major buyers, building infrastructure to train and run AI models. National sovereign-AI initiatives are also contributing in some regions, according to IDC. The result is a market mix tilted toward more costly equipment, even when unit growth is modest.
What forecasts say about the market’s direction
Gartner’s 2025 forecast projected worldwide server-market spending of $530 billion in 2026, up from $383 billion in 2025. Gartner described the projected increase as 36.9% growth in constant currency and forecast a five-year compound annual growth rate of 28.1% through 2029. These are Gartner estimates, not confirmed sales results. Gartner’s 2026 forecast

IDC’s server-market page presents a separate series: it lists worldwide server spending of $453.531 billion in 2025 and forecasts $646.998 billion in 2026. IDC’s 2025 total comprises $298.560 billion for x86 servers and $154.971 billion for non-x86 servers. Its 2026 total is a forecast, not a realized result. The figures differ from Gartner’s estimates; they should be treated as separate analyst series, not combined or averaged. Their methodologies and definitions may differ. How AI infrastructure spending fits into the picture
AI infrastructure figures help explain the source of demand but cover a broader category than the server market alone.

- 2025: IDC reported $318 billion in worldwide AI infrastructure spending. That total is not server sales. In Q4 2025, servers accounted for $87.7 billion, or 97.6% of AI infrastructure spending for that quarter. IDC’s Q4 2025 AI infrastructure analysis
- Q1 2026: IDC reported $89.7 billion in AI infrastructure spending, of which $87.6 billion was server spending. Within that quarter’s accelerated-server value, non-x86 systems accounted for $53.0 billion and x86 systems for $34.6 billion. IDC described this as a platform shift, but the figures do not establish which architecture will lead over the long term. IDC’s Q1 2026 AI infrastructure analysis
- 2026 outlook: IDC forecast $497 billion in AI infrastructure spending for the year. This is an AI-infrastructure forecast, not a forecast for the entire server market. IDC’s AI infrastructure forecast
IDC Research Director Juan Pablo Seminara said the Q1 2026 results show that AI infrastructure investment is increasingly about “which platform wins it,” as well as how much compute is purchased. That is an analyst’s interpretation of the changing market mix, not a settled prediction of which platform will prevail.

Demand can stay strong if cloud providers continue investing in AI capacity and deployment expands from model training to inference. Sovereign-AI programs may add demand in some markets. But spending plans do not guarantee that projects can be completed on schedule.

- Adjustable Depth: 23-40'' adjustable depth is used for servers and network equipment, ensuring enough space for AV equipment, components, and cabling, while allowing you to access ports and equipment from multiple sides.
- Strong Load Capacity: Ground-Mounted Load Capacity: 500 lbs, Wall-Mounted Load Capacity: 150 lbs. The av rack is made of carbon steel for better weldability performance and can help save space while meeting your need to place multiple devices.
- User-friendly Design: Ergonomic design makes the open frame av rack easier to use. The additional top panel is able to place other items with more available space. Roller design moves anywhere and anytime, is convenient, and is more energy-saving.
- Complete Accessories: We provide the accessories you need, including 2 x Pallets, 145 x M5*10 Cross Head Screws, 4 x Casters, 4 x M10*50 Expansion Screws,10 x M6*12 Cage Nuts, 1 x Grounding Wire, 1 x User Manual.
- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
- Power and grid capacity: IDC says electricity and grid limits can constrain the commissioning of AI data centers. A purchased server cannot generate revenue from a facility that lacks power or is not ready to operate. IDC’s AI infrastructure analysis
- Memory and storage supply: IDC reports supply pressure for memory and NAND components, and identifies constraints on non-accelerated server shipments. Shortages can limit the number of systems vendors can deliver even when buyers are ready. IDC’s server-market analysis
- Trade and data rules: Export controls can affect which systems are available to buyers in particular markets; data-sovereignty requirements can influence where infrastructure is deployed. These forces may redirect investment rather than simply eliminate it. IDC’s AI infrastructure analysis
The evidence supports a fast-growing server market by spending, with AI infrastructure central to the increase. It does not show that unit shipments are rising at the same pace, or that growth will continue uninterrupted. Forecasts remain positive, while execution depends on whether buyers can obtain components, secure power and navigate regional rules.
