The best carry-on suitcase with a laptop compartment is the one that fits your actual computer and your airline’s full size limit—not simply the model with the biggest advertised laptop size. Travel + Leisure named the Samsonite Paralux Carry-On Spinner its overall pick and the Coolife Hardshell Extendable Carry-On its budget pick in a roundup updated July 24, 2026. Their laptop capacities differ, and neither screen-size label replaces checking your device and sleeve measurements.
How Travel + Leisure evaluated these carry-ons
Travel + Leisure says its team has tested more than 294 carry-on suitcases. For this roundup, the publication describes packing each case for a four-day trip, rolling it over varied surfaces and an obstacle course, lifting it into an overhead bin, and conducting drop and impact tests. It also says testers used a dummy laptop while packing. Its criteria included capacity, design, durability, maneuverability, and value. Those are Travel + Leisure’s reported methods and observations; they are not tests conducted for this article. Read Travel + Leisure’s roundup and its model-specific findings.
Compare the carry-ons by laptop fit and use case
| Model | What the source establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Samsonite Paralux Carry-On Spinner | Travel + Leisure’s overall pick. The roundup says it fits laptops up to 15 inches and notes front access and included packing cubes. | The roundup lists a 23-inch height, which may exceed some international airline limits. Check the complete exterior size against your carrier’s rules. |
| Coolife Hardshell Extendable Carry-On | Travel + Leisure’s budget pick. Its reviewers say the front pocket held a laptop and tablet. | The review says the pocket, handle, and wheels take space from the main compartment, and that the handle felt looser than those on other picks in the reviewers’ experience. It does not state an exact laptop-size limit. |
| Travelpro Platinum Elite Business Plus Carry-On Spinner | Travelpro lists a padded laptop pocket. Overall dimensions are 22.5 × 14.5 × 9 inches; the case body is 20 × 14 × 9 inches. | Use the larger overall dimensions for airline comparisons, not the body-only measurements. |
| Monos Carry-On Pro | Monos says the built-in front compartment fits a 16-inch laptop. | Check your laptop’s physical dimensions, any sleeve, and the current dimensions for the exact model. |
| Away The Executive Carry-On | Away says its front pocket has dedicated sleeves for a 14-inch laptop, phone, and passport. | Away says it meets the requirements of most major airlines; verify your own flight’s current size rules. |
| GALA The Modern Carry-On | The manufacturer publishes exterior dimensions of 56 × 37 × 27 cm and laptop-pocket interior dimensions of 39 × 26.5 × 3 cm. | At 27 cm deep, its full exterior dimensions warrant a carrier check. Compare the computer and sleeve against the stated pocket interior. |
| NOMATIC Carry-On Executive | NOMATIC describes an integrated removable tech case for a laptop up to 16 inches, headphones, and power banks. | Confirm current dimensions and availability in your market; it is a separate business-oriented configuration. |

Check laptop fit using measurements, not screen class alone
A 15- or 16-inch laptop label describes screen class, not the outside dimensions of the device or the space a protective sleeve needs. Measure the laptop’s width, height, and thickness, then compare those numbers with the compartment’s stated interior dimensions when the manufacturer provides them. Leave clearance rather than forcing a close fit. Travel + Leisure specifically cautions readers to allow extra room; its roundup lists the Samsonite for laptops up to 15 inches and the Coolife for laptops under 17 inches, but does not provide a shared compartment-measurement standard.

Manufacturer claims are not equivalent protection ratings. Monos specifies a 16-inch fit, Away specifies a 14-inch sleeve, and Travelpro lists a padded pocket, but the sources do not establish a common independent laptop-protection test across these brands. A padded or front-access pocket alone does not demonstrate a particular level of impact protection.
Match the suitcase’s full exterior size to your flight
Airline allowances vary by carrier and itinerary, so check the current rule for the specific flight before buying. Include wheels and carry handles in the suitcase measurement. Travelpro’s Platinum Elite product FAQ puts the distinction plainly: “When airlines publish size limits they mean the overall size, so compare the overall number to your airline’s limit.” Its product page separates the 20 × 14 × 9-inch body from the 22.5 × 14.5 × 9-inch overall size. See Travelpro’s dimensions and FAQ.

- External Dimensions(including wheels and handles): 22x14.5x9.8 IN(Expanded: 22x14.5x10.8 IN), Internal Dimensions: 19.2*13.7*9.4 IN(Expanded: 19.2*13.7*10.4 IN), Weight: 7.5 LB, Total Capacity: 37.7L(Expanded: 41.8L) , Includes front pocket capacity
- Maximize Packing Capacity: Our carry on suitcase 22 x 14 x 9 airline approved features a zipper expansion, adding 10% extra space to accommodate more travel essentials, This carry-on luggage fits perfectly in the overhead bins of major airlines. Ideal for short-term business trips and weekend getaways.
- Convenient Front Pocket Design: 20‑inch carry‑on luggage includes a front pocket that houses a 15.6‑inch laptop sleeve, mesh organizer and document pocket, allowing access without opening the main shell. The front pocket is secured with its own TSA‑approved lock separate from the main compartment. A front‑opening design provides easy reach to electronics and travel documents. (When the front pocket is full, the main compartment space will be smaller）
- Smooth and Secure: Carry-on suitcases feature dual TSA-approved combination locks that secure the front pocket and main compartment independently, enhancing travel safety and making customs clearance more convenient. It also features four 360° silent swivel casters and a three-position adjustable aluminum telescoping handle.
- Organized Interior Design: This spinner carry-on is meticulously crafted from lightweight yet durable polycarbonate hard shell material, offering both lightness and sturdiness. The main compartment features mesh pockets and a wet bag to separate clean clothes, shoes, or toiletries.
Do not assume that a suitcase described as a carry-on—or as suitable for most major airlines—will fit every route’s limit. For example, Travel + Leisure flags the Samsonite’s listed 23-inch height as a possible issue on some international airlines. Compare all three external dimensions with your carrier’s current published allowance.
Weigh laptop access against main-compartment space
A front pocket can make a computer easier to reach at security or during a trip, but the trade-off depends on the suitcase’s design. Travel + Leisure found the Coolife’s pocket useful for a laptop and tablet while warning that the pocket, handle, and wheels reduce space in its main cabin. That observation applies to the Coolife review, not automatically to every front-pocket model. Check how the pocket is built and whether it competes with the interior space you need for clothes and other items.

Before deciding, compare the features that matter on the exact model: empty weight, usable packing space, hard- or softside construction, expansion, wheel and handle behavior, and how the laptop compartment opens. The available model descriptions do not establish all of these details consistently, so use each manufacturer’s current product specifications for any feature not listed above.
