Soitec supplies the engineered material; Qualcomm uses it in ultraSAW filters for radio-frequency front-end modules. Later company disclosures show POI filters in smartphones and customers in production, but do not establish that Soitec leads the 5G RF-filter market.
What the Qualcomm agreement covered
Announced on July 7, 2020, after several years of collaboration, the agreement was intended to bring Soitec’s POI wafer production to high-volume manufacturing for Qualcomm Technologies RF filters in smartphone radio-frequency front-end modules. Qualcomm executive Christian Block said the supply agreement would support demand from device makers for Qualcomm ultraSAW products. Soitec executive Bernard Aspar described POI as an important part of Qualcomm’s 5G offering. Soitec’s announcement did not disclose the deal’s value, committed wafer volumes, duration, or exclusivity.
What POI is—and where it fits
Soitec describes POI as a high-resistivity silicon substrate with a buried oxide layer and a very thin, uniform single-crystal piezoelectric layer. The company makes it using its Smart Cut process. POI can be used to manufacture surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters for smartphone front-end modules. Soitec says the material enables wider bandwidth, lower sensitivity to temperature changes, and integration of multiple filters on one chip; these are supplier-described attributes, not independent proof of superiority across applications. Soitec’s POI product information describes the material and its intended use.
A phone’s RF front end includes more than filters. Soitec says POI is used for SAW filters, while its RF-SOI substrates support components such as power amplifiers, switches, and low-noise amplifiers. Qualcomm’s portfolio includes ultraSAW, ultraBAW, and TC-SAW technologies, so POI/SAW is one part of a broader set of filtering approaches rather than the only route to 5G filtering. Qualcomm’s filter portfolio identifies those technologies.

What later disclosures show
In its FY2025-2026 Universal Registration Document, covering the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, Soitec said the first smartphones with acoustic filters on POI substrates were on the market. It reported around ten customers in production and more than a dozen in qualification. The company also said it would keep increasing capacity to meet growing demand for 5G RF filters and noted that its POI Process Design Kit partnership with SAWNICS launched in 2023. These are company-reported adoption and customer figures, not an independent measure of market share. Soitec’s regulated-information page provides its published filings.
Soitec’s FY2026 results add a demand-side qualification: POI sales were slightly lower than in the previous fiscal year after a strong ramp-up, reflecting a temporary slowdown in Asia, even as sales grew with leading U.S. customers. The company said leading fabless companies were increasingly adopting POI for advanced SAW filters. Separately, it said longer smartphone replacement cycles and customer inventory levels were expected to weigh on RF-SOI revenue in FY2026-2027, and reported a long-term Skyworks agreement for its Sky5 platform as strengthening POI’s medium-term visibility. Those disclosures indicate continuing adoption alongside uneven conditions; they do not demonstrate category-wide leadership. The company’s FY2026 results and filings are available through its regulated-information page.

- If you're experiencing TV reception issues due to LTE Interference, the Channel Master LTE Filter is designed to filter unwanted LTE signals and improve performance. However, most signal problems are caused by other factors. If this filter doesn’t resolve your issue, contact Channel Master—we’ll help troubleshoot your antenna system and find the right solution.
- Meets USA Standard for filtering/blocking 3G, 4G & 5G LTE signal and preventing TV antenna interference from cell phone and nearby LTE towers.
- Compatible with all TV Antennas and it passes signals up to 608MHz supporting all USA TV channels & attenuates 618MHz and above to block the new "600MHz" LTE band.
- Designed to support the latest TV antenna standards in the US including Digital HDTV, NextGen TV, ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 with its low insertion loss and class A RFI shielding ensures no compromises in signal level and quality.
- Important: Many types of interference are not related to LTE/5G signal interferences, this filter will help prevent interference reated to LTE and 5G signals and is a good addition to any TV antenna system. If you still have issues after adding the filter, this suggest that the interference is from somthing other than LTE/5G signal.
Does the deal prove Soitec aims to lead?
In a July 2020 interview, Soitec executive Bernard Aspar told EE Times, “Our ambition for our POI is to become a standard for RF filters for both 4G and 5G.” That is evidence of the company’s ambition at the time, not proof that POI became a standard or that Soitec now leads the overall 5G filter market. EE Times’ 2020 report also relayed forecasts and capacity plans made then; they should not be treated as verified outcomes.
Determining whether one filter technology is better requires comparable measurements for the relevant frequency and band coverage, bandwidth, insertion loss, temperature stability, integration density, form factor, yield, cost, and supply capacity. The cited company materials do not provide an independent head-to-head assessment across those factors. The most supportable conclusion is narrower: Soitec secured a significant Qualcomm supply relationship, and the company later reported commercial adoption of POI-based filters, while leadership across 5G RF filtering remains unproven.
