There are two separate GST e-invoice deadlines to track: from April 1, 2025, taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover (AATO) of ₹10 crore or more must report covered documents within 30 days of the document date; once an IRN has been generated, the IRP cancellation window is only 24 hours. The 30-day restriction is not a universal deadline for every GST-registered person.

The first clock runs from the document date and concerns reporting for IRN generation. The second starts when the IRN is generated and concerns cancellation. They are not interchangeable.
Who must report within 30 days?
IRIS IRP’s release note says that, effective April 1, 2025, taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover (AATO) of ₹10 crore and above must report invoices, credit notes and debit notes within 30 days from the document date. The portal restricts IRN generation once that period has passed. Read the IRIS IRP release note.
This is a restriction described for that turnover cohort, not a general 30-day rule for every GST-registered person. The release note establishes the operational portal limit; it does not provide a complete statement of every taxpayer’s e-invoicing applicability or exceptions. Check current GSTN or IRP guidance for your circumstances before relying on the rule.

Can you edit or cancel an e-invoice?
No. After invoice details are submitted through the IRP, they cannot be amended there. The IRIS IRP FAQ says an e-invoice can be canceled within 24 hours of generation; its cancellation help page likewise limits the workflow to active IRNs generated within the previous 24 hours. Cancel an eligible IRN
- Check the IRN’s generation time and confirm it is still within 24 hours.
- Check whether an active e-way bill is linked to the invoice. If so, cancel that e-way bill first; an active e-way bill prevents IRN cancellation. See IRIS IRP e-way bill guidance.
- Use the IRP cancellation workflow for the eligible active IRN. Follow the portal’s current instructions and retain the cancellation details for your records.
Cancellation does not erase the record that an e-invoice was generated, and the canceled IRN cannot be reused for another invoice. IRIS IRP FAQ.

What to do after the 24-hour cancellation window
The IRP does not allow cancellation through this workflow after 24 hours, and it does not provide a way to amend the submitted invoice details. The IRIS IRP FAQ points users to correcting or deleting details in GSTR-1 as applicable and gives a credit note as an example. See the FAQ’s correction guidance.
That is a reporting route, not a universal instruction to issue a credit note for every mistake. The right GST accounting treatment depends on what happened in the transaction. Identify the error, determine the appropriate correction under current GST rules, and consult a qualified tax professional where the treatment is uncertain. Do not treat a GSTR-1 correction as a late IRP cancellation.

How e-invoice data reaches the IRP
The IRIS IRP FAQ describes several reporting routes: the government bulk-generation tool, direct API, GSP API, and accounting or ERP software. Reported invoice information may auto-populate the supplier’s GSTR-1. See the IRIS IRP FAQ on reporting methods.
Regardless of the route, maintain a workflow that checks the document date against the applicable reporting window and keeps the IRN generation time available for any cancellation decision.

Do not confuse today’s limit with the 2020 procedure
Notification No. 73/2020-Central Tax established a special 30-day procedure during October 2020. That historical measure is separate from the IRIS IRP restriction effective April 1, 2025 for the specified ₹10 crore-and-above AATO cohort.
