It was a Ben’s Best giveaway tied to MoveOn’s “Scoop the Vote” tour—not a regular Ben & Jerry’s retail flavor. The name nodded to the viral coconut-tree meme about Kamala Harris.
What was Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee?
The flavor combined coconut ice cream, a caramel ripple and confetti stars. It carried the Ben’s Best label, distinguishing it from the co-founders’ traditional Ben & Jerry’s brand. The Hill reported on the flavor and tour in September 2024: The Hill’s report on Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee.
Cohen and Greenfield worked with MoveOn on the flavor as part of its “Scoop the Vote” ice cream truck tour, a voter-engagement effort during the 2024 election cycle. The Hill said the tour planned stops in more than 20 battleground-state cities; that was a planned figure, not a confirmed count of completed stops. The flavor was distributed free or by raffle.
Could you buy the flavor in stores?
No ordinary retail availability was reported. WHYY said in 2024 that the pint was not available in stores and that people could enter an online rally for a chance to win one: WHYY’s coverage of the ice cream. The available reporting describes a limited tour giveaway, not a product readers can assume is currently for sale.
#1 Best Overall
- Talenti Wild Blackberry Gelato 1 pint
- Smooth gelato wildly full of real blackberries with a blackberry swirl
- Blackberry gelato and a blackberry jam swirl. Refreshing, tangy and sweet--times two
- Kosher
- Gluten-free
That distinction matters: Cohen and Greenfield created the flavor, but it was presented under the Ben’s Best label rather than as a standard Ben & Jerry’s retail flavor. No current listing for the named pint is established by the cited coverage.
What is the coconut tree meme, and why did it spread?
The meme came from a May 2023 White House speech in which Harris recalled her mother asking, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people, you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” Harris then made a broader point: people should be understood in the context of their lives and what came before them.

The clip resurfaced and spread online in July 2024, becoming a meme that people used to signal support for Harris or joke about the distinctive line. The Guardian reported that one popular cut of the soundbite had appeared in more than 18,000 TikTok videos by its July 22, 2024 article; that is a historical count, not a current total: The Guardian’s explanation of the coconut-tree meme.

The coconut name referenced the viral speech clip, while the “Scoop the Vote” tour connected the giveaway to voter mobilization. Cohen put the political tie-in plainly in a WHYY-TV interview, as quoted by Salon: “So, we’re making ice cream for Kamala.” Salon’s report on Cohen’s statement.
