A Football League World ranking dated 20 July 2025 was billed as a list of the 12 richest owners in the 2025/26 EFL Championship. The accessible repost of that ranking contains only 11 entries, and its figures mix individual and family wealth, a deceased owner’s historical estimate, and a corporate fund figure. Treat it as a reported media ranking—not a verified, like-for-like measure of club owners’ current wealth or spending power.
What can be verified about the 12-owner ranking?
Football League World’s article, dated 20 July 2025, is identified by an accessible Football Addict syndication page. That page does not show the ranking entries, and the original FLW page could not be accessed. A separate Talk2Soccer repost presents what it says is the ranking, but lists 11 entries rather than 12.
Because the two accessible versions do not establish the complete list, the twelfth name and the exact original ordering cannot be verified. The table below reproduces the 11 names and amounts in Talk2Soccer’s stated order; it does not fill the gap or independently confirm the estimates.
The 11 entries in Talk2Soccer’s repost
| Repost rank | Owner or entity named | Club named | Amount cited by Talk2Soccer | What the figure represents or how it is qualified |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shilen Patel | West Bromwich Albion | £376 million (the text calculates £376.6 million) | Talk2Soccer combines estimates for Shilen Patel and his father Kiran, attributing its inputs to Birmingham Live in 2024. It is not presented as Shilen Patel’s individual wealth alone. |
| 2 | Steve Gibson | Middlesbrough | £640 million | Talk2Soccer attributes the estimate to Teesside Live; the repost does not establish a common valuation date or method for comparison with the other entries. |
| 3 | Michael Eisner | Portsmouth | £870 million | Talk2Soccer’s conversion of a Forbes estimate; no common valuation date or method is established across the list. |
| 4 | The Hemmings family | Preston North End | £1.1 billion | The repost uses a historical estimate for Trevor Hemmings, who died in 2021, while describing the family as leading the club. |
| 5 | Dragan Šolak | Southampton | £1.25 billion | Talk2Soccer’s conversion of an estimate it attributes to LiveScore in 2024. |
| 6 | Tom Wagner | Birmingham City | £1.34 billion | Talk2Soccer attributes the estimate to Birmingham Live; a consistent valuation date and method for the list are not established. |
| 7 | The Venky’s | Blackburn Rovers | £1.66 billion | Talk2Soccer attributes the estimate to the Yorkshire Post; the repost does not establish a common basis with other figures. |
| 8 | Stephen Lansdown | Bristol City | £2.3 billion | Talk2Soccer’s conversion of a Forbes estimate. |
| 9 | John Coates | Stoke City | £2.4 billion | Talk2Soccer’s conversion of a Forbes estimate. |
| 10 | Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha | Leicester City | £2.7 billion | Talk2Soccer’s conversion of a Forbes estimate; this is an individual estimate, not a measure of the entire family’s resources or the club’s spending capacity. |
| 11 | Gamechanger 20 Ltd | Ipswich Town | £10.8 billion | Talk2Soccer attributes a $13 billion figure to the East Anglian Times. It is a reported fund-size figure, not the personal net worth of Ipswich’s owners. |
Talk2Soccer’s repost does not provide a consistent publication year for every estimate. Where it gives a source or date, those qualifications appear above; the remaining figures should not be read as current valuations.

Why the figures do not make a reliable wealth league table
The entries do not measure the same thing
The list mixes personal estimates, a combined father-and-son estimate, a family-associated historical estimate and a fund-size figure. A fund’s reported assets are not the personal net worth of its managers or owners, and do not show how much money is available to a football club.
The dates and methods are not aligned
The repost attributes estimates to different outlets, including Forbes and local news sources, and gives no single valuation date or shared methodology. Currency conversions and underlying estimates may also refer to different dates. A rank order built from those inputs looks more precise than the evidence supports.

Club ownership is not the same as individual wealth
For Leicester City, a Norton Rose Fulbright ownership report lists Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha with 55% of the relevant club entity’s shares, alongside four family members holding 10%, 10%, 10% and 15%, respectively. Those reported shareholdings describe ownership of the club entity; they do not establish that one shareholder personally owns all family wealth or can direct all of it to the club. See the Norton Rose Fulbright ownership report.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does an owner’s wealth show how much a Championship club can spend?
No. A wealth estimate does not establish how much capital an owner will provide, how much a club can raise, or what the club is permitted to spend under league rules.

On 15 May 2026, the EFL said Championship clubs had approved Squad Cost Rules to replace Profitability and Sustainability rules (P&S) from 2026/27. The EFL also said clubs operated the new system in shadow during 2025/26 alongside P&S. These club-level financial controls are separate from any estimate of an owner’s personal fortune. The EFL’s announcement is available in its 15 May 2026 statement.
