The standard Medicare Part B premium in 2025 was $185 per month, and the annual deductible was $257. Those were increases of $10.30 and $17, respectively, from 2024. These are historical 2025 amounts, not current 2026 charges.
What Medicare Part B cost in 2025
For beneficiaries paying the standard rate, Part B cost $185 a month in 2025. The annual deductible—the amount a beneficiary generally pays for covered Part B services before Medicare begins paying its share—was $257.
| Cost | 2024 | 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard monthly Part B premium | $174.70 | $185.00 | +$10.30 per month |
| Annual Part B deductible | $240 | $257 | +$17 per year |
CMS announced the 2025 amounts on November 8, 2024. CMS’s 2025 premiums and deductibles fact sheet lists the year-over-year figures.
Why did the Part B premium and deductible rise?
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said the increase was mainly due to projected price changes and assumed utilization increases consistent with historical experience. CMS determines each year’s Part B premium, deductible and coinsurance rates under provisions of the Social Security Act. Its explanation does not identify one specific drug or service as the cause.

For context, CMS described the 2024 increase differently: it cited projected growth in health care spending and, to a lesser degree, the remedy for the 2018–2022 340B-acquired drug payment policy under the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System. That was CMS’s explanation for the 2024 change, not the stated reason for the 2025 increase. CMS’s 2024 announcement provides that earlier context.
Will everyone pay $185 a month?
No. The $185 amount was the standard monthly premium. CMS also sets higher total premiums for beneficiaries whose income and tax filing status qualify them for an income-related monthly adjustment. CMS says these adjustments affect roughly 8% of people with Part B; income-based Part B premiums have been in place since 2007.

For full Part B coverage in 2025, the monthly total depended on modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) and filing status:
| MAGI on individual return | MAGI on joint return | Total monthly premium |
|---|---|---|
| $106,000 or less | $212,000 or less | $185.00 |
| More than $106,000 through $133,000 | More than $212,000 through $266,000 | $259.00 |
| More than $133,000 through $167,000 | More than $266,000 through $334,000 | $370.00 |
| More than $167,000 through $200,000 | More than $334,000 through $400,000 | $480.90 |
| More than $200,000 but less than $500,000 | More than $400,000 but less than $750,000 | $591.90 |
| $500,000 or more | $750,000 or more | $628.90 |
The table shows the total monthly premium for full Part B coverage, not an extra amount to add to $185. CMS also has separate rules for people filing separate returns and a distinct schedule for Part B immunosuppressive-drug-only coverage after a kidney transplant. Check the applicable entries in the CMS 2025 table before relying on a precise amount for either special case.

What Part B covers—and what these costs mean
Part B covers physicians’ services, outpatient hospital services, certain home health services, durable medical equipment and certain other medical and health services not covered by Part A. The premium is the recurring monthly cost of Part B coverage; the deductible is a separate annual cost-sharing threshold. Neither figure, by itself, describes every out-of-pocket cost a person may have for care.

CMS’s later announcement set the standard Part B premium at $202.90 a month and the annual deductible at $283 for 2026. For someone checking a bill or planning current expenses, use the 2026 figures rather than the historical 2025 amounts. CMS’s 2026 premiums and deductibles fact sheet gives those rates.
