Prosecutors said the calls involved Social Security and IRS impersonation and loan fraud. The indictment is a set of allegations, not proof of guilt or a statement of the case’s final outcome.
What prosecutors alleged
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia said the call centers placed initial scam calls and worked with E Sampark, a previously indicted VoIP provider, to forward calls into the United States. In one alleged scheme, callers posed as federal agents and told people their Social Security numbers were connected to crimes. The announcement also described IRS impersonation and loan fraud.
The six call centers and people named in the February 2022 announcement were:
- Achivers A Spirit of BPO Solutions Private Limited: Manu Chawla.
- Fintalk Global: Sushil Sachdeva, Nitin Kumar Wadwani, and Swarndeep Singh, also known as Sawaran Deep Kohli.
- Global Enterprises: Dinesh Manohar Sachdev.
- Shivaay Communication Private Limited: Gaje Singh Rathore.
- SM Technomine Private Limited: Sanket Modi.
- Technomind Info Solutions: Rajiv Solanki.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) was identified as the investigating agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Elizabeth McBath was identified as the prosecutor. The Justice Department announcement does not establish a final result for every defendant.

What “tens of millions of calls” means
The 2022 announcement said the superseding indictment alleged that E Sampark forwarded tens of millions of scam calls. That is a call-volume figure: it is not a count of calls answered, victims defrauded, or proven financial losses. The headline’s reference to thousands of Americans reflects the DOJ’s characterization of the alleged fraud, not a claim that every forwarded call reached or defrauded a separate person.

These are figures from dated DOJ charging announcements, not independently reconciled totals. They describe different defendants, time periods, and measures, so they should not be added together.
How to respond to a call threatening arrest over your Social Security number or taxes
The practical warning in the 2022 DOJ announcement is about the demand, not merely the caller’s claimed identity: a government agency will not condition avoiding immediate arrest or other legal action on sending urgent payment by cash, retail gift card, wire transfer, or internet currency. The DOJ put it this way: “Government agencies will never threaten you with immediate arrest or other legal action if you do not send cash, retail gift cards, wire transfers, or internet currency.”

- Do not pay or share sensitive information during the call. Treat an urgent payment demand tied to avoiding arrest or legal action as a warning sign.
- Hang up. Do not follow instructions to stay on the line, buy gift cards, transfer money, or use internet currency.
- Verify independently. If you believe the caller may have a legitimate concern, find the agency’s contact information independently and contact it yourself rather than calling a number supplied by the caller.
- Report the demand to law enforcement. The DOJ announcement advises hanging up and contacting law enforcement independently when someone claiming to represent a business or government agency demands gift-card payment.
For a Social Security-number claim, a caller’s assertion that your number is linked to a crime is not a reason to send money. For an IRS claim, the same urgent-payment warning applies: do not treat a threat of immediate arrest tied to gift cards, cash, a wire transfer, or internet currency as a legitimate payment instruction.

A superseding indictment is a formal charging document. The February 3, 2022 announcement says what prosecutors alleged about the defendants and the call-routing arrangement; it does not establish guilt. The announcement identifies the charges at that point, but it does not establish the later court disposition or current procedural status of every named defendant.
