Published estimates place Edir Macedo and Alph Lukau among the wealthiest pastors, but there is no verified global ranking of pastors’ personal fortunes. The figures below are estimates reported by named outlets, not audited personal balance sheets; their methods and the assets they count are not consistently disclosed.

Published estimates, ranked by reported amount

This is a comparison of figures published by different outlets, not a definitive ranking of verified personal wealth. The sources do not establish a common valuation method or consistently say whether a number represents personal assets, family wealth, business holdings or ministry assets.

Pastor Published estimate Publisher and date What the source establishes
Edir Macedo $1.9 billion Piqora, 2025 The source publishes an estimate; its valuation method and the precise assets counted are not established in the available information.
Alph Lukau $1 billion Piqora, 2025 The source publishes an estimate; its valuation method and the precise assets counted are not established in the available information.
Alph Lukau $1 billion Pulse Nigeria, 2025 The source publishes an estimate; the available information does not establish a common or independently audited method.
Edir Macedo $1.8 billion Pulse Nigeria, 2025 The source publishes an estimate; the available information does not establish a common or independently audited method.
Kenneth Copeland $400 million Piqora, 2025 The source publishes an estimate; its valuation method and the precise assets counted are not established in the available information.
Kenneth Copeland $300 million Mirror Review, June 2025 The source publishes an estimate; its valuation method and the precise assets counted are not established in the available information.
David Oyedepo $200 million Piqora, 2025 The source publishes an estimate; its valuation method and the precise assets counted are not established in the available information.
David Oyedepo $200 million Mirror Review, June 2025 The source publishes an estimate; its valuation method and the precise assets counted are not established in the available information.

The table sorts the reported amounts, not the people’s verified fortunes. In particular, Macedo’s two listed estimates differ by $100 million, and Copeland’s reported figures diverge more sharply: ChurchLeaders, August 2026, describes estimates ranging from around $300 million to more than $750 million. Such variation makes a single precise rank misleading.

Why pastor net-worth rankings are uncertain

ChurchLeaders explains that churches and ministries organized as religious nonprofits generally do not disclose salaries, property and investments in the way publicly traded companies do. Public filings may not show the full picture of assets associated with a pastor, which can include real estate, aircraft, investments, books or media arrangements. ChurchLeaders also says published figures are estimates rather than audited statements.

That does not make institutional wealth personal wealth. A church’s property, donations or operating revenue cannot automatically be counted as the pastor’s assets. Pulse Nigeria notes that the boundary can appear blurred when a pastor founded and leads a ministry, but that observation is not evidence that donations were misused. A reliable personal net-worth figure would need to identify what belongs to the individual, what belongs to an organization or business, and how each asset and liability was valued; the cited rankings do not provide a consistent accounting of those elements.

Why Joel Osteen’s commonly cited figure needs a caveat

ChurchLeaders says estimates of about $100 million circulate for Joel Osteen but notes that the specific amount lacks a verifiable source. Snopes has a separate fact-check, dated August 6, 2021, titled “Joel Osteen’s Net Worth: Is It Really $40 to $60 Million?” That fact-check does not establish a definitive net-worth figure. For that reason, a precise Osteen estimate should not be presented as verified or added to a ranked list as though its basis were known.

How to read a “richest pastor” list

  • Check the publisher and date. The figures change across outlets and over time, so an estimate should travel with its source and publication date.
  • Look for the asset definition. Personal, family, business and ministry wealth are different categories. If the source does not say which it means, treat the scope as unspecified.
  • Look for a valuation method. Without disclosed assets, liabilities and a way of valuing them, a specific number is not independently verifiable from the list alone.
  • Do not equate ministry scale with personal fortune. Donations, revenue and property held by a ministry are not automatically the pastor’s personal assets.
