Black Friday vs. Cyber Monday 2025: Which Was the Better Day to Shop?

Black Friday suited in-store doorbusters; Cyber Monday suited online convenience and tech deal seekers. Neither survey responses nor sales totals prove which day had the lowest price on a specific item.

There was no universal winner: Black Friday 2025 better fit shoppers seeking in-store doorbusters, while Cyber Monday better fit people shopping online for convenience, fewer crowds, or tech deals. That distinction reflects what US consumers said they planned to do—not a product-by-product audit proving that prices were lower on either day. The practical answer depended on the exact item, seller, price history, and terms.

When were Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2025?

Black Friday fell on November 28, 2025, and Cyber Monday was December 1. Amazon’s US Black Friday event ran from November 20 through December 1, so its promotion covered both shopping days and the period before them. Amazon’s date announcement and event announcement describe those retailer-specific dates and offers.

The broader sale period was not confined to those two dates: the Associated Press reported that retailers had been promoting Black Friday offers for weeks. Store access, inventory, hours, and offer terms varied by retailer and location.

Which day fit different shopping priorities?

Deloitte’s 2025 survey asked US consumers about their expected shopping behavior and reasons. These responses indicate shopper preferences, not verified savings or a guarantee about any particular deal.

Priority Better fit in the survey What respondents said
In-store doorbusters Black Friday Among respondents planning to shop in store on Black Friday, 54% cited doorbusters as a reason. 52% said the best in-store deals were then.
Avoiding crowds Cyber Monday online 52% of respondents planning to shop online on Cyber Monday cited avoiding crowded stores.
Saving time and effort Cyber Monday online 50% of respondents planning to shop online on Cyber Monday cited saving time and effort.
Seasonal tech deals Cyber Monday online 48% of respondents planning to shop online on Cyber Monday said the best tech deals of the season were then; that is a perception, not a guarantee for a particular model.
Shopping with friends or enjoying the in-person experience Black Friday 43% of surveyed respondents planning in-store Black Friday shopping cited enjoying shopping with friends and family. The AP also noted that some shoppers value the mall experience and some retailers offered in-store exclusives.

For context, Deloitte respondents expected 60% of their Black Friday-Cyber Monday spending to be online and 40% in stores. Those figures describe projected channel mix, not observed final sales. Respondents planned to buy clothing and accessories (76%), electronics and accessories (56%), toys and hobbies (52%), and gift cards (51%) during the event period; these are planned categories, not a ranking of discount depth.

Does Cyber Monday have better tech deals?

Not necessarily for the specific product you want. Deloitte found that 48% of respondents planning online Cyber Monday shopping said the day had the season’s best tech deals, but the survey did not compare the prices of particular models across retailers or dates. If you are deciding whether to wait, compare the same model and configuration from the same seller or comparable sellers, including any bundle, shipping charge, and return terms.

Sales volume does not settle the question either. The AP reported that Adobe Analytics measured $9.1 billion in US online spending by 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Cyber Monday 2025, and that Adobe forecast $14.2 billion for the full day. The first was an interim figure and the second a forecast as reported at the time; neither establishes that Cyber Monday prices were better than Black Friday prices.

How to judge whether a deal is actually good

  1. Identify the exact item. Record the model number, size, storage, configuration, and included accessories. A different version or bundle is not a like-for-like price comparison.
  2. Check its price history and compare sellers. A discount label alone does not show whether the price is unusually low. The AP’s Black Friday shopping guidance recommends price-history research and comparison shopping.
  3. Read the offer terms. Check shipping or pickup costs, exclusions, return conditions, and when the deal ends. A lower listed price may not be the better purchase once those terms are included.
  4. Choose based on your constraints. If you need an in-store exclusive or want the shopping experience, Black Friday may suit you better. If convenience and avoiding crowds matter more, online Cyber Monday shopping may fit. For a particular item, let the verified price and terms—not the event name—decide.

Amazon announced millions of deals across categories including home, electronics, beauty, and apparel for its 2025 event. That announcement describes Amazon’s promotion; it does not establish that every item was at its lowest price. More broadly, an offer appearing during a named sale is not proof that it is the best available price.

What the survey and sales figures can—and cannot—tell you

Deloitte fielded its online survey of 1,200 US consumers from October 15–23, 2025, and reported a full-sample margin of error of plus or minus 1–2 percentage points. Its findings concern stated plans and motivations, not completed purchases or a comprehensive retailer price comparison. The survey’s methodology and detailed results provide the US context for the percentages above.

A separate DHL eCommerce page reports global—not US-specific—Black Friday shopper results: 50% said they completely or mostly trusted retailer offers and prices, 34% somewhat trusted them, and 16% rarely or did not trust them. It also says electronics were the leading purchase category, with 37% buying electronics during Black Friday sales. These global findings do not show which day had lower prices in the United States. DHL eCommerce’s 2025 findings give the broader geographic scope.
