Is there a standard fine for a yellow or red card?
No. The FA’s 2025–26 disciplinary regulations say clubs may fine players for cautionable and sending-off offences under an applicable employment contract. The rule does not prescribe an amount for any card.
The FA also requires a club that imposes a fine to notify it of the details. That reporting requirement does not make the amount a public, league-wide tariff. What happens after yellow-card bookings?
Booking accumulation can trigger a competition suspension, not an automatic published cash penalty. The Premier League’s 2026/27 guidance says a player who receives five bookings in their side’s first 19 Premier League matches serves a one-match ban in the same competition. Ten bookings up to and including the side’s 32nd league fixture bring a two-match ban. These thresholds are separate from any club fine imposed under a player’s contract.

How do red-card suspensions differ?
A red card is a sending-off, while a yellow card is a caution; the suspension rules also treat competition carryover differently. Premier League guidance says red-card suspension periods cover Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup matches. Premier League yellow cards do not carry over to those domestic cups, whereas red cards are carried to and from them.

These are rules about matches missed, not a disclosed monetary charge. A club may impose a contractual fine for a sending-off offence under the FA provision, but the public rule does not specify a sum or confirm a fine in an individual case.

The FA’s 2025–26 media guidance says 20 cautions in a league season result in a misconduct charge. That is a disciplinary charge, not a routine per-card fine; the guidance does not establish a standard cash amount for reaching that threshold. The FA’s disciplinary materials distinguish this process from a club’s contract-based power to fine a player.
