What Camtek announced in September 2001
EE Times reported on September 8, 2001, that Camtek Ltd. had signed an agreement to acquire Inspechtech Ltd., an Israeli supplier of wafer-level inspection systems. The report said the transaction was expected to be completed within 60 days. It does not establish that the deal subsequently closed or explain what happened to Inspechtech after the expected closing window. EE Times, September 8, 2001
Reported deal terms
EE Times described the financial terms as $2.25 million in cash consideration, plus Camtek’s repayment of approximately $2.0 million in outstanding bank loans. The loan repayment was reported separately from the cash consideration; the report does not say that the $2.25 million included the debt.

#1 Best Overall
- It made automated optical inspection systems for printed-circuit boards and advanced substrates.
- It developed systems for wafer-dicing operations.
- It was developing an inspection system for flip-chip and bumping technologies.
The report also named Intel, Hewlett Packard, Motorola, Infineon, Phillips, and SGS Thomson as customers. Those customer names are attributable to EE Times’ 2001 account and are not independently confirmed here.
Why Camtek said it wanted the business
Camtek CEO Rafi Amit said the proposed acquisition would give the company an opportunity to enter semiconductor-industry “back-end” inspection. He also said Inspechtech would provide flip-chip bump inspection technology needed for the high-density interconnect industry. These were Camtek’s stated reasons at announcement time, not evidence that the transaction closed or that the anticipated expansion later succeeded.

- Trinocular viewing head with pair of 10x super-widefield eyepieces, adjustable interpupillary distance, fixed 45-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation capability to enable sharing
- 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective provides continuous zoom magnification and longer focal length for inspecting large-scale specimens, and a 0.5x Barlow lens extends the working distance
- Removable rheostat-controlled 54-bulb LED ring light provides intensity control and bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens
- Single boom arm with 8" vertical working distance and adjustable 16" boom arm enables users to adjust the microscope on the X- and Y-axes
Inspechtech’s reported sales
EE Times reported Inspechtech sales of $2.66 million in fiscal 2000, compared with $486,000 in 1999 and $466,000 in 1998. These are historical figures published by the trade outlet in 2001, not current revenue or independently verified financial statements.
