That is a third-party planning estimate—not a Tesla price list or a quote for a particular car. Tesla does not publish a general retail price for the job, so the amount you would pay depends on the vehicle, diagnosis, warranty coverage and repair scope.
What the cost estimates do—and do not—tell you
The $12,500–$18,000 estimate is for a complete pack replacement and varies by Model Y variant and pack type, according to EV Repair Directory’s Model Y cost guide, last reviewed August 5, 2026. It is the publisher’s estimate, not a Tesla-approved price, an audited set of invoices or a guarantee that a specific repair will cost within that range. Tesla directs owners to ask Service about repair costs through the app; estimates may change, and Tesla says it will not perform service without approval of updated costs. See Tesla’s vehicle warranty information.
One owner posted a July 20, 2026 estimate of $18,292 from Tesla Palm Springs for a 2022 Model Y. The report says the work included both the high-voltage battery and the 16V battery, so it is not directly comparable to a pack-only estimate; it is also a single unverified account, not a market average. Read the owner’s post.
No suitable original-publisher dataset establishes a typical invoice or Model Y battery failure rate. Treat online price figures as planning inputs, not evidence that a replacement is likely or that every battery concern requires a new pack.

- DROP-IN 12V 35AH: Swaps straight in for 6-FM-33, DCS-33 and 8AU1H; fits Deka Intimidator 8AU1; serves as a replacement for Tesla Model S 12V battery. The 7.7 x 6.1 x 5.16 in case and 22 lb weight match the original 12V 35 Ah footprint, so it settles into place with no modification.
- READY TO INSTALL: Arrives factory-activated and fully charged, with no acid to pour and no bench-charging before you start. Set it in place, thread on your leads, and your chair, boat, mower, or solar bank is back in service in minutes, the same afternoon it shows up.
- M6 BOLT TERMINALS: The terminals are internal-thread posts that take an M6 bolt directly into the case, not the nut-and-bolt studs some listings picture. Match your existing cable lugs to M6 hardware up front and your connections tighten down flush, no adapters and no rigging.
- MOUNT IT ANYWHERE: Because the cells are fully sealed and leak-free, you can set it upright, lay it on its side, or tuck it under a seat in any orientation without a mess. Maintenance-free means you bolt it in once and skip the water top-offs flooded batteries always demanded.
- 35AH ALL-DAY RESERVE: 35 Ah and 420 Wh of deep-cycle reserve is sized for a 30-55 lb thrust trolling motor, an all-day power-chair outing, or an off-grid solar and inverter load. When the job is starting instead of running, 380 CCA fires up lawn tractors, generators, and golf carts.
Why the repair scope matters
A high-voltage battery concern does not automatically mean the entire pack must be replaced. Depending on the diagnosis and pack design, a provider might consider a localized or module-level repair, while a damaged enclosure or other fault may call for a different procedure. EV Repair Directory lists lower estimates for some module-level and independent or remanufactured options, but those are also its estimates—not proof that a given pack is repairable or that such an option is available to you.
Tesla publishes distinct service procedures for different Model Y battery configurations. Its high-voltage battery removal and replacement procedure for 2020–2024 Model Y RWD is a technician procedure, not a consumer DIY guide. Tesla says third-party technicians should have equivalent training.

Check warranty coverage before comparing out-of-pocket prices
Warranty eligibility depends on the exact vehicle, its warranty region, model year, trim, contract and circumstances of the fault. Do not assume coverage—or its expiration—from a generic model-year or mileage rule. Check the vehicle’s applicable warranty documents and ask Tesla Service to determine whether the diagnosed repair is covered.
Some eligible Model 3 and Model Y owners may have purchased Tesla’s Battery Extended Service Agreement while the original Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty was still active. Tesla describes the ESA as covering eligible repairs or replacement of Tesla-made high-voltage batteries and drive units for up to 24 months or 30,000 miles after the original coverage expires, with a $500 deductible per service visit. Eligibility and the purchased agreement’s terms control; see Tesla’s Battery Extended Service Agreement information.

How to get a useful written estimate
- Request diagnosis through Tesla Service. Use the Tesla app to raise the repair-cost question and ask for the estimate in writing. If comparing providers, give each the same vehicle and diagnostic information.
- Ask what failed and what work is proposed. Have the estimate distinguish a complete pack replacement from a localized repair or enclosure-related work, and identify the pack type and whether a structural-pack procedure applies.
- Check what the total includes. Ask whether parts, labor, related low-voltage battery work, taxes, transport and any old-pack return or core charge are included.
- Confirm coverage and repair warranty. Request the warranty decision, any applicable ESA deductible and remaining term, and the written warranty for the proposed replacement or repair.
- Compare like with like. Evaluate quotes by scope, pack and vehicle fit, total price, coverage and the provider’s high-voltage qualifications—not by headline price alone.
These questions help make estimates comparable; they do not mean every provider offers module repairs, remanufactured packs or the same warranty terms.

For specified visible damage to the battery enclosure, Tesla’s July 15, 2025 structural-pack bulletin says the service center should recommend replacement. If inspection determines replacement is required, Tesla does not recommend driving until the battery is replaced. This direction applies to the damage condition described in the bulletin, not every warning light, range change or battery concern. Follow Tesla or a qualified service provider’s instructions for the particular vehicle. Read Tesla bulletin TN-22-16-001 R2.
