There is no single current replacement price for every GM electric vehicle. For a Chevrolet Bolt, a secondary estimate published in 2026 puts a full out-of-warranty battery replacement at a dealership at about $16,000–$20,000 or more. That is not a GM quote, and it should not be applied to other GM models. Your actual cost depends on the vehicle, the repair required, parts and labor, and whether warranty or recall coverage applies.
What does a GM EV battery replacement cost?
The clearest current figure available is specific to the Chevrolet Bolt. Find My Electric estimated in a guide dated July 29, 2026, that a full out-of-warranty Bolt battery replacement at a dealership could cost about $16,000–$20,000 or more. It is a secondary estimate, not a GM-issued price or guarantee. The final bill can vary with the battery pack, parts, labor, taxes, diagnostics, and the scope of the repair. That range is not a price for all GM EVs. Current comparable installed estimates are not established here for models such as the Cadillac LYRIQ, Chevrolet Blazer EV and Equinox EV, GMC HUMMER EV and Sierra EV, or Chevrolet Silverado EV. Battery configuration, model year, location, parts availability, diagnosis, labor, and coverage can all differ.

Could warranty or recall coverage lower your bill?
Possibly. A covered repair can change what you pay, so ask a GM dealer to check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for current warranty coverage, open recalls, and any prior recall remedy. Do not infer eligibility from model year alone or rely only on a seller’s statement.

A 2017 article quoted a Chevrolet communications specialist saying Bolt EV owners “shouldn’t expect to pay parts costs for warrantied repairs.” That was a historical statement, not confirmation of current warranty terms or eligibility for a particular vehicle. The dealer needs to verify the VIN and the repair at issue.
Why a battery replacement estimate may include more than the pack
The amount depends first on whether the diagnosis calls for a complete high-voltage pack, a module-level repair, or a different fix. The estimate may also include diagnosis, labor, programming, coolant or related work, tax, and any core charge. Ask the shop to identify each item rather than treating a pack price as the total job cost.

Some GM EV battery work has a documented programming requirement. In a mid-September 2024 notice, GM TechLink said updated Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) calibrations are required before replacement for specified vehicles: 2022–2025 HUMMER EV; 2023–2025 BrightDrop and LYRIQ; and 2024–2025 Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado EV, and Sierra EV. How to get a useful, comparable estimate
- Start with the VIN. Ask a GM dealer to check warranty coverage, open recalls, and the status of any prior recall remedy before you authorize paid work.
- Get the diagnosis in writing. Confirm whether the proposed work is a full-pack replacement, module-level repair, or another repair. Ask what evidence supports the recommendation.
- Request an itemized quote. Have the shop separate parts, labor, diagnosis and programming, coolant or related work, taxes, and any core charge.
- Compare like with like. If you seek a second quote, check whether both options use new or remanufactured components, what the replacement-part and workmanship warranties cover, and whether the same diagnosis and required programming are included.
- Check the shop and parts availability. Verify that the provider services your model year and location, is qualified for the required high-voltage work, and can explain the parts being offered and the timing.
Independent service providers also advertise Bolt battery replacement options. For example, Greentec Auto lists Bolt EV replacement services, professional installation, warranty coverage, and service locations, but its page does not establish a universal installed price. Do not confuse the 12-volt battery with the traction battery
The small low-voltage battery and the high-voltage traction pack are different components. A replacement for the Bolt’s 12-volt AGM battery does not answer the cost of replacing its drive battery. Make sure a quote identifies which battery the diagnosis concerns.
