OpenAI announced $110 billion in new investment on February 27, 2026, at a $730 billion pre-money valuation. Amazon was named for $50 billion, with NVIDIA and SoftBank each named for $30 billion. OpenAI later reported that the round closed with $122 billion in committed capital at an $852 billion post-money valuation—different figures tied to a later stage and a different valuation basis.

What OpenAI announced in February 2026

OpenAI’s February 27 announcement described $110 billion in new investment and a $730 billion pre-money valuation. The company named three investors: Amazon, NVIDIA and SoftBank. OpenAI said additional financial investors could join as the round progressed. OpenAI’s February announcement

Named investor Amount in the February announcement
Amazon $50 billion
NVIDIA $30 billion
SoftBank $30 billion

The listed amounts add to $110 billion. The announcement’s wording was: “Today we’re announcing $110B in new investment at a $730B pre-money valuation.” OpenAI, February 27, 2026

Why the later total is $122 billion

OpenAI subsequently said the funding round closed with $122 billion in committed capital at an $852 billion post-money valuation. The February $110 billion figure describes the announced investment at that point; $122 billion is the total OpenAI reported at the later close. They are not competing estimates of the same announcement. OpenAI’s funding-close announcement

The valuation figures also use different bases. A pre-money valuation refers to a company’s valuation before the new financing is added; a post-money valuation refers to the valuation after it. So the $730 billion pre-money figure and $852 billion post-money figure should not be compared as if they were the same measure at the same stage.

What was committed, completed and still conditional

Announced investment amounts and completed funding are not always identical. SoftBank’s April 2026 public offering memorandum describes its $30 billion follow-on investment as three $10 billion tranches. It says the first tranche was completed on April 1, 2026, while the remaining tranches were subject to the terms and conditions of definitive agreements. SoftBank’s April 2026 offering memorandum

OpenAI also disclosed an approximately $4.7 billion expanded revolving credit facility that was undrawn at close. That credit availability is not invested equity and should not be added to the $122 billion committed-capital total. The company separately said it had raised more than $3 billion from individual investors through bank channels. OpenAI’s close disclosures

Why Amazon and NVIDIA are part of the story beyond financing

OpenAI described the Amazon investment alongside a multi-year strategic partnership. It also announced an expanded NVIDIA collaboration, including plans for 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity and 2 gigawatts of training on Vera Rubin systems. These are announced partnership and capacity plans; the announcement does not establish that the future capacity was already operational. OpenAI’s partnership and infrastructure announcement

What OpenAI said about demand

To explain the infrastructure push, OpenAI’s February announcement reported more than 900 million weekly active ChatGPT users and more than 50 million consumer subscribers. Those are company-reported figures from February 2026, not independently audited numbers established by the cited announcement, and they should not be treated as current usage figures without newer confirmation. What the funding figures do—and do not—tell you

The scale of the financing and the named investors show the capital commitments and strategic relationships OpenAI announced. They do not, by themselves, establish the company’s profitability, the eventual return to investors, or whether planned compute capacity will be delivered on schedule. The reported valuation is a financing valuation, not a public-market price available to individual investors.
