Amazon’s reported plans for Fresh stores in North Seattle and Federal Way date to 2021–22, not to a current opening announcement. Amazon later announced it would close its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go physical stores, but its company-wide announcement did not say what happened to either Seattle-area site or give an individual closure date.
Where were the planned Amazon Fresh stores?
North Seattle: 13025 Aurora Ave. N.
GeekWire reported on October 13, 2021, that an Amazon Fresh store was under construction at 13025 Aurora Ave. N., near North 130th Street in the Bitter Lake area. Store signage was up, and Amazon was hiring for the location, but the company had not confirmed an opening date. Plans cited by GeekWire identified 35,715 square feet for the grocery space. GeekWire’s October 2021 report
The same report said Amazon described a starting wage of $17.75 an hour and a $1,000 hiring bonus for the North Seattle store. Those are historical figures reported in 2021, not current job terms.
Federal Way: 1928 S. Commons
GeekWire reported that a planned store at 1928 S. Commons in Federal Way was to occupy a former Sears location at The Commons. In January 2022, Amazon had not provided GeekWire with an opening date. The earlier reporting cited real-estate information from Kidder Mathews; Amazon did not comment on the site at that time. GeekWire’s January 2022 report

Amazon told GeekWire the Federal Way plan included Just Walk Out technology alongside traditional checkouts. That was a feature reported for the plan, not confirmation of the store’s current status or services.
Is Amazon still opening these stores?
No current opening for either address is established by the available company announcement. Updated May 12, 2026, Amazon said it had decided to close its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go physical stores, with various locations converting to Whole Foods Market. The announcement does not identify the Aurora Avenue or Federal Way addresses or state their individual disposition or closure dates. Amazon’s announcement about its Fresh and Go stores

Amazon explained its decision this way: “While we’ve seen encouraging signals in our Amazon-branded physical grocery stores, we haven’t yet created a truly distinctive customer experience with the right economic model needed for large-scale expansion.”
Amazon said Amazon Fresh online would remain available in areas where the service operates. It also described other grocery initiatives, including online delivery and tests of other physical retail concepts. Those company-wide activities do not amount to a renewed opening plan for these two locations.

What local officials said about the Federal Way plan
In GeekWire’s January 10, 2022 report, Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell discussed the broader shift in retail: “Unfortunately I think the state of retail is changing based on consumer patterns in regards to online purchasing and the way people engage in the marketplace,” Ferrell said. “But I still think there’s a need and a desire by people to do shopping in person.” GeekWire’s report quoting Mayor Jim Ferrell
