Gang sheets can lower the cost per custom transfer by placing multiple designs on one larger sheet of transfer film. The savings come from using more of the area you pay for—not from the sheet automatically being a bargain. Compare the total order cost with the number of transfers you can actually use after accounting for print size, trim gaps, waste, shipping and your supplier’s rules.
What a gang sheet is—and where the savings come from
A gang sheet is one sheet of transfer film carrying multiple designs. You can combine different artwork, sizes and quantities on the same order. Transfer Express notes that a large image can share sheet space with smaller clip art, logos or inside-shirt tags at the same sheet price (Transfer Express).
When a supplier charges by sheet size or length, fitting more usable artwork into the paid area spreads that cost across more transfers. Smaller designs can sometimes occupy open areas around larger ones. But a tightly packed layout is not necessarily the most practical: leave enough space to cut pieces cleanly and handle them without damaging adjacent designs.
Calculate the cost per usable transfer
Use the total price for the exact order, then divide it by the number of transfers you can use. Count only designs that fit at their real print dimensions and allow for trim gaps and unusable space. Compare that result with the supplier’s price for individual transfers covering the same designs and quantities.

For example, if a sheet costs $30 and yields 60 usable pieces, its material cost is $0.50 per usable transfer before shipping and other costs. If only 40 pieces fit after spacing and trimming, the effective cost is $0.75 each. These are arithmetic examples, not supplier quotes.
Compare like with like: the sheet width and length, transfer or film type, artwork mix, shipping, and order assumptions all affect the result. A 24-inch-wide sheet is not directly comparable to a 22-inch-wide sheet based only on its price per inch.

One supplier’s listed prices
As of October 4, 2026, DTF Transfers Wholesale listed a rate of $0.35 per inch for its 24-inch-wide gang sheet, with 24 inches priced at $8.40 and 120 inches at $39.60. Those are that supplier’s listed prices, which may change; verify the current price and any shipping cost before ordering (DTF Transfers Wholesale gang sheet builder).
How much might a buyer save?
DTFTransfers gives illustrative estimates of about 15–20% savings for six 10-by-12-inch chest prints, about 15–35% for fifteen 4-by-4-inch logos, about 20–35% for a mixed order, and about 40–50% for a run of more than 40 designs. These are that vendor’s examples, not independent or industry-wide savings rates; actual results depend on the supplier, layout and order (DTFTransfers, March 19, 2026).

When a gang sheet makes sense
- Mixed designs or sizes: Different artwork can share a sheet, making it easier to use space around larger prints.
- Repeat quantities: Several copies of a design can occupy the same order, provided the layout fits without compromising trimming or handling.
- Enough artwork to use the sheet: A fuller sheet can reduce cost per usable transfer if the added pieces are ones you need.
- A small or simple order: Individual transfers may be easier to manage when you have only one or a few designs and would leave much of a sheet unused.
There is no universal break-even quantity established by the suppliers cited here. Price the exact design mix both ways before deciding; a longer sheet can cost more overall even if its listed rate per inch is lower.
Prepare artwork and place the order
Artwork requirements vary by supplier, so check the current specifications for the product and builder you select. GangSheet.com recommends transparent PNG or vector artwork, at least 300 ppi, spacing for clean trimming and requesting a proof when brand-critical color accuracy matters. DTF Transfers Wholesale lists PNG, PDF or AI artwork at 300 DPI for its builder; these are vendor-specific requirements, not universal standards (GangSheet.com FAQ; DTF Transfers Wholesale gang sheet builder).

- Set the actual print sizes and quantities. Work from the size each design needs on the finished garment or item, not just the dimensions of the artwork file.
- Check accepted file formats and resolution. Confirm transparency and other file rules with the chosen supplier before uploading.
- Upload, place and space the designs. Use the builder’s manual or automatic layout tools if available, while preserving room to trim each transfer.
- Review the preview and price. Verify the number of copies, sheet dimensions, transfer type and total cost, including shipping where applicable.
- Request a proof if color accuracy is critical. A preview can catch layout issues, but a proof is a more appropriate checkpoint for important brand colors if the supplier offers one.
Some supplier builders offer drag-and-drop placement, duplication, auto-nesting or live pricing; features vary. A separate file-generation tool may help prepare a layout, but using such software does not itself include printed transfers. DTFGSA, for example, describes its software’s manual nesting and white-channel preparation as taking about 20 minutes per sheet compared with under one minute in its tool. That is the vendor’s estimate under its assumptions, not an independent time study or a typical measured saving (DTFGSA pricing).

Printing the sheet and applying the transfers are separate parts of the job. Applying DTF transfers requires a heat press, and the correct temperature, time, pressure and peel method depend on the supplier’s product instructions. GangSheet.com describes briefly pre-pressing a garment, aligning and pressing the transfer, peeling as directed and optionally applying a short second press; follow the actual transfer maker’s settings rather than treating that sequence as universal. Its DTF products are listed for cotton, polyester and blends, while its UV DTF decals are for clean, smooth, non-porous hard surfaces—not fabric (GangSheet.com FAQ).
