On September 12, 2025, Delta CEO Ed Bastian told employees that workers whose social media content related to Charlie Kirk’s killing had been suspended while the company investigated. Delta did not disclose how many employees were affected, and the announcement did not say that every suspended employee had been fired.
What did Bastian’s memo say?
In a message sent to employees on Friday, September 12, Bastian said Delta had learned of employees’ social media content related to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He characterized the content as going beyond healthy, respectful debate and said it conflicted with the company’s values and social media policy.
As quoted in contemporaneous reports, Bastian wrote: “We were made aware of Delta employees whose social media content, related to the recent murder of activist Charlie Kirk, went well beyond healthy, respectful debate.” He added: “These social posts stand in stark contrast to our values and our social media policy, and these employees have been suspended pending an investigation.” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the memo’s suspension announcement.
Bastian also warned that a policy violation could lead to serious discipline, including termination. In a passage reproduced by FOX 5 Atlanta, he said: “Remember that we represent Delta, at all times, in any forum. It’s essential that we act in ways that uphold our shared values and the human connection that defines us.”

How many Delta employees were suspended?
Delta did not publicly disclose a number in the contemporaneous reporting. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution described multiple employees as suspended; FOX 5 said the number was unknown. There is no supported count to report.
What is known about the posts and investigation?
The reports establish how Bastian described the content and that the employees were suspended pending investigation. They do not establish the posts’ exact wording. FOX 5 said it had not seen the posts, so their contents should not be presented as independently verified.

Nor did the announcement provide a complete list of affected employees or the final outcome of every case. Suspension pending an investigation is not the same as a finding that every employee was fired. Bastian said violations of the social media policy could carry consequences “including termination.” CNN also reproduced the memo’s policy warning.

An October 2025 follow-up reported that Delta flight attendant Mathew Palmer was dismissed after a social media post dated September 10. The report described him as one of an undisclosed number of employees affected by Delta’s response. His reported dismissal establishes one later outcome; it does not show what happened to all the other employees initially suspended.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also reported that the Air Line Pilots Association declined to comment on potential discipline involving individual pilots and noted that pilots are not at-will employees and have a grievance-arbitration process under their contract. That context concerns pilots and should not be taken to describe the process for every Delta employee.
