Research Nine Dragons Paper Holdings (stock code 2689) by starting with its latest company filing, then testing whether sales growth is translating into sustainable margins and cash generation. The paper, pulp and packaging producer reported FY2026 revenue of RMB75,000.5 million and profit attributable to equity holders of RMB3,580.6 million, but those headline figures alone do not establish how much cash the business generated, how it is funded or whether the shares are attractively valued.
This guide uses information available through 4 October 2026. Nine Dragons Paper’s official announcements index lists its FY2026 annual-results announcement dated 23 September 2026. Read the full issuer filing before making a decision, and check the index for later announcements.
1. Start with the latest filing, not a stock summary
Use the company’s announcements page to find the 23 September 2026 FY2026 annual-results announcement. Read the complete document, including the financial statements, cash-flow statement, balance sheet, segment information, accounting notes and management discussion. A results headline is a starting point, not a substitute for those details.
- Open the issuer’s announcements index: go to Nine Dragons Paper Investor Relations announcements and locate the FY2026 annual-results announcement dated 23 September 2026.
- Read the full filing: check how the company defines and presents revenue, profit, debt, cash flow, capital spending, dividends and segment results.
- Check for newer disclosures: look for announcements after the results date that could change the picture, such as updates on financing, projects or operations.
- Keep periods and units aligned: distinguish the financial year ended 30 June 2026 from calendar-year data, and note whether figures are in RMB, tonnes or another unit.
The figures below are reported FY2026 results, not forecasts or a valuation conclusion. The company’s investor-relations index confirms the announcement and date; use the issuer-hosted filing itself to verify the detail and context.

2. Understand what the business sells and where it sits in the supply chain
Nine Dragons Paper makes packaging paper, higher-end virgin paper and pulp, and also has downstream packaging operations. Its products include kraftlinerboard, testlinerboard, white-top linerboard, coated linerboard, bleached folding boxboard, high-performance corrugating medium, coated duplex board, printing and writing paper, specialty paper and pulp. The company describes recyclable paper as a major raw material and cites cogeneration, warehousing and logistics as operating supports. Its business overview is the issuer’s description of its products and footprint, not independent confirmation of operating benefits.
That mix matters because a tonne of one product need not earn the same margin as a tonne of another. The company’s FY2024/25 annual report said packaging paper generated approximately 90.0% of revenue in FY2025. Follow both the performance of this core business and whether higher-value products or pulp materially change the mix and margins.
3. Separate sales volume from selling prices and margins
In FY2026, the company reported sales volume of approximately 24.5 million tonnes, revenue of RMB75,000.5 million, gross profit of RMB10,924.8 million, net profit of RMB4,047.0 million, profit attributable to equity holders of RMB3,580.6 million, basic EPS of RMB0.76 and a final dividend of RMB0.10 per share. These are figures for the year ended 30 June 2026, reported in the company’s annual-results announcement dated 23 September 2026.

Do not treat growth in tonnes as proof of stronger pricing or better unit economics. In FY2025, revenue was approximately RMB63,240.5 million, up 6.3%; sales volume rose 9.6%, while average selling price fell 3.0%. That combination makes price realization, costs and product mix essential parts of the analysis. FY2025 figures come from the company’s 2024/25 annual report.
Questions to answer in each results period
- Did revenue change because the company sold more tonnes, achieved higher prices, or both?
- Did gross profit and gross margin move in the same direction as revenue? If not, investigate input costs, selling prices, product mix and utilization.
- Did reported profit convert into cash from operations, or was cash tied up in working capital or investment?
- Did the profit attributable to equity holders move in line with total net profit? Check the filing for the reasons behind any difference.
Compare like with like across reporting periods. FY2026 headline figures by themselves do not establish year-over-year growth rates or explain what drove the results.
4. Interpret capacity and integration figures carefully
At 30 June 2025, Nine Dragons Paper reported annual design capacity of approximately 23.5 million tonnes for paper and 7.5 million tonnes for fibre raw materials. The fibre figure comprised 4.7 million tonnes of wood pulp, 0.7 million tonnes of recycled pulp and 2.1 million tonnes of wood fibre. It also reported annual design capacity of approximately 2.9 billion square metres at downstream packaging plants. These are design capacities disclosed in the company’s FY2024/25 report, not actual production, sales or utilization.
Rank #3
The company describes ten paper manufacturing bases in mainland China, one in Vietnam, one pulp mill and one paper manufacturing base in Malaysia, and four pulp and paper mills plus one packaging plant in the United States. It says integration supports cost savings, flexibility and operational control. Treat those as company claims to test against reported margins, cash generation, utilization and returns on invested capital—not as proof that integration has delivered those outcomes.
5. Test whether expansion is earning its cost
Capacity can support future sales, but it also requires financing and may take time to ramp up. Compare actual capital spending with operating cash flow, debt movements, interest expense and project progress. Then look for evidence that new capacity is being used and contributing economically rather than simply adding to the asset base.
- Compare capital expenditure with cash generated from operations and the company’s funding needs.
- Track gearing, borrowing, interest costs and debt maturities in the full filing.
- Check whether additions improve output, product mix or cost position, and whether reported margins and cash returns support that rationale.
- Read the company’s risk disclosures alongside the financial statements: the FY2024/25 report warns that expansion in raw materials and higher-end products can raise capital expenditure and financial risk, including gearing and loan-interest costs.
In its FY2024/25 report, the company also warned that simultaneous industry capacity expansion and import competition could create a short-term glut and pressure product prices. Compare that risk with later selling prices, gross margins, inventory, utilization and cash conversion.

6. Examine raw materials, regulation and other business risks
Recovered fibre and input security
The FY2024/25 report says China’s waste-import ban has intensified recovered-paper supply risk. The company says domestic recovered paper became its largest recovered-paper procurement source and describes expanding recycled pulp, wood pulp and wood fibre to replenish raw materials. Assess whether those steps secure reliable inputs at competitive cost by tracking input prices, supply disclosures and their effect on margins.
Foreign exchange
The company has overseas operations and procures some raw materials and equipment overseas, creating exposure to exchange-rate movements. Its FY2024/25 report says most operations and transactions are in China and RMB and that it has no hedge policy. That is management’s stated approach, not evidence that currency effects cannot be material; review the filing’s reported foreign-exchange effects and exposures.
Weather and environmental transition
The report identifies extreme weather as a possible influence on input supply, power generation and plant or equipment. It also points to environmental rules, carbon quotas or pricing, and clean-energy requirements as potential costs and investment factors. Check subsequent disclosures for compliance matters, environmental incidents, policy developments and decarbonization spending.

Nine Dragons Paper uses the slogan “No Environmental Management, No Paper Making.” This is corporate language, not an independent audit or measure of environmental performance. The risk disclosures and any reported outcomes are more useful to an investor than the slogan on its own.
7. Check what the reported numbers do—and do not—tell you
The FY2026 release provides a set of annual headline figures, but they are not enough to establish valuation, future earnings or financial resilience. Before forming a view, use the complete filing to examine the following:
- Cash flow: compare operating cash flow with reported profit and identify working-capital effects.
- Balance sheet: review cash, borrowings, gearing and debt maturities, and assess them alongside investment plans.
- Margins and segments: look for segment-level performance and disclosures that help explain changes in gross profit and mix.
- Capital allocation: assess capital expenditure, project commitments and the declared dividend against cash generation and funding needs.
- Share valuation: use a current share price and a clearly stated valuation method. The reported EPS and dividend do not, by themselves, establish whether the shares are cheap or expensive.
Do not infer dividend yield from the FY2026 final dividend of RMB0.10 per share: a yield calculation would also require a share price for a specified date, and the final dividend is not necessarily the full-year distribution.
8. Build a decision from evidence, not a single headline
A practical research note can summarize the case in four linked questions: Is demand and sales volume durable? Are realized prices, product mix and input costs supporting margins? Are capacity additions generating returns that justify their funding? Can cash generation and the balance sheet support the company through competition and raw-material, currency, weather and regulatory risks?
Record the evidence and reporting period for each answer, then identify what would change your view. The latest FY2026 release is a useful starting point, but the final assessment depends on the full issuer filing, subsequent announcements and a valuation using current market data. This information is for research, not a personalized investment recommendation.
