Why batteries are central to BYD’s manufacturing system
BYD’s battery operations are more than a component supplier to its vehicle business. In its investor presentation filed with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing on March 27, 2026, the company describes battery capabilities spanning independent research and development, design, and manufacturing. It says those batteries serve vehicles, energy storage, consumer electronics, and rail applications.
This is BYD’s account of its capabilities, rather than an independently audited map of which components are made at which plants. It nevertheless explains why battery production is central to the company’s factory story: BYD presents battery development and manufacture as part of a broader industrial business, not merely a purchase from an outside supplier.
What happens inside a Blade Battery factory?
A dated example in Chongqing
In a June 4, 2020 release about a tour for media and industry guests, BYD described its Chongqing FinDreams Battery factory as the only Blade Battery production base at that time. The company reported annual capacity of 20 GWh at that site.

That figure belongs to one factory and one historical point in time. It is not a current capacity figure for the whole company, nor does the release establish the site’s present output. The example does show that BYD had a dedicated production base for its Blade Battery, but the available description does not provide a detailed, independently verified account of the factory’s equipment, automation, staffing, or production process.
How BYD says the battery connects to the car
BYD describes cell-to-body technology as making the battery system both an energy unit and a structural component of the vehicle body. In that design approach, the battery is not treated only as a pack to be installed after the body is engineered; BYD says it contributes to the vehicle’s structure as well as storing energy.

What the production milestones show
BYD said its 15-millionth new-energy vehicle (NEV) rolled off the production line at Jinan in 2025. The milestone is company-reported and refers to cumulative production, not the output of one factory.
In the same company announcement, BYD reported producing 4.182 million vehicles from January through November 2025, an 11.3% increase year over year. That figure covers the first eleven months only; it is not a full-year total. Neither it nor the cumulative milestone identifies how production was distributed among individual plants.
How overseas expansion changes the supply chain
A regional supplier for the planned Szeged facility
On June 24, 2025, BYD announced voestalpine as a sheet-steel supplier for its planned passenger-car facility in Szeged, Hungary. BYD linked regional sourcing to localized production. The announcement establishes a supplier relationship associated with the planned plant, but it does not establish that vehicle manufacturing there has since started or report current output.

What BYD means by a wider industrial footprint
In a separate supplier announcement dated February 24, 2025, BYD said it had more than 30 industrial parks in several countries. The statement does not define what it counts as an industrial park, so it should not be read as a count of vehicle factories or as a measure of production capacity. The Szeged sourcing example is more specific: it shows a stated effort to connect a planned regional vehicle operation with a local supplier.

Taken together, BYD’s disclosures describe a manufacturing model that links in-house battery capabilities, battery-and-body integration, high reported vehicle production, and efforts to source materials near a planned overseas facility. They do not establish a current inventory of all BYD factories or their individual capacities.
