To convert euros to U.S. dollars, multiply the euro amount by the exchange rate expressed as USD per EUR. The European Central Bank’s latest listed working-day reference observation as of 4 October 2026 was 1 EUR = 1.1225 USD on 2 October 2026. At that dated rate, €100 equals $112.25 by calculation—not necessarily the amount a bank, card issuer, cash exchange service, or transfer provider will deliver.
How to convert euros to U.S. dollars
- Find a rate quoted as U.S. dollars per euro (USD per EUR), and note its source and date.
- Multiply the euro amount by that rate.
- For a real payment or exchange, check the provider’s own quote and fees; a reference-rate calculation is only an estimate.
For example, using the ECB reference observation of 1.1225 USD per EUR on 2 October 2026: €100 × 1.1225 = $112.25. The $112.25 is an arithmetic result from the published rate, not a separate ECB statistic or guaranteed transaction amount. The ECB’s euro foreign exchange reference rates list currencies against the euro, so the USD figure tells you how many dollars one euro buys.
What the ECB rate does—and does not—tell you
The ECB calls its figures reference rates and says, “Using the rates for transaction purposes is strongly discouraged.” A bank, card issuer, cash exchange counter, or transfer provider may use a different exchange rate and charge fees. The amount you receive can therefore differ from the calculation above.
The ECB normally updates reference rates around 16:00 Central European Time on working days, except TARGET closing days. The 2 October 2026 observation was the latest listed working-day value visible on Sunday, 4 October 2026; it is not a live Sunday quote. Check the observation date and refresh a provider’s quote before acting.

Where to check a dated EUR-to-USD rate
ECB Data Portal converter
The ECB Data Portal currency converter lets you select currencies, an amount, and a date. Its logic prioritizes ECB reference exchange rates over Bloomberg rates where both apply. The portal describes the ECB exchange-rate dataset as updating around 16:00 and its FX dataset as collected at end of day and updated overnight.
Federal Reserve historical rates
The Federal Reserve’s H.10 historical exchange-rate page labels its series “Rates in U.S. dollars per EU euro” and lists values by date. For a historical comparison, use a consistent publisher and identify both the source and observation date; different providers or dates may report different figures.

How to compare a real exchange or transfer quote
When you are preparing an actual transaction, compare the details that determine what changes hands:
- Timestamp and rate source: note when the quote was issued and what rate it uses.
- Quoted exchange rate: check the provider’s USD-per-EUR rate rather than assuming it matches a reference rate.
- Fees: identify any explicit charges that apply to the transaction.
- Recipient’s final amount: compare the dollars the recipient will actually get, not just a headline rate.
Provider rates, fees, and offers are specific to the provider and transaction, so check them directly before confirming.
