How to Troubleshoot BolsaBuddy Prices That Fail to Update

BolsaBuddy is described as a daily-data IPC report, not a confirmed real-time quote feed. Check the report date and identify the first script that fails before assuming a cause.

Start by checking what BolsaBuddy is meant to display: its creator describes it as a locally run Python project that fetches daily Yahoo Finance data for Mexico’s IPC index (^MXX), then builds indicators and an HTML report—not as a confirmed real-time quote feed. If a price appears stale, note the report date and inspect the first command that fails; the available project descriptions do not establish a specific cause or a verified fix for an individual update failure.

First check whether the report is actually out of date

Compare the date printed in your report with the market day you expected it to cover. A report generated from daily data is not necessarily expected to change continuously during a trading session. The creator’s sample report, for example, used data dated 2026-10-01; its quoted IPC close of 63,828.6 and daily move of −0.60% belong to that dated example, not to the current market.

The creator describes BolsaBuddy’s input as Yahoo Finance’s free daily ^MXX feed, and an independent review likewise cautions that it is not an established real-time exchange feed. These descriptions do not specify Yahoo Finance’s exact delay. A displayed value that differs from a live quote therefore does not, by itself, identify a software fault.

Inspect the report pipeline one stage at a time

The creator’s stated run command chains five scripts:

python3 fetch.py && python3 analyze.py && python3 brief.py && python3 news.py && python3 report.py

Because && runs the next command only if the preceding one succeeds, a failure early in this sequence stops the later scripts. To narrow down where to look, run the commands separately from the project directory and record the first nonzero exit or error output:

  1. python3 fetch.py — capture its terminal output and check whether it exits successfully.
  2. python3 analyze.py — run this only after the fetch step completes, then record any error.
  3. python3 brief.py — inspect this stage separately from fetching and analysis.
  4. python3 news.py — note whether this stage completes.
  5. python3 report.py — check whether a new report is produced and what date it shows.

This is a diagnostic way to locate the failing stage, not a confirmed BolsaBuddy repair. The available project description does not document the actual error handling or establish why any particular user’s price failed to update. Preserve the exact command, terminal output, and report date when seeking help; those details are more useful than the report value alone.

Keep data fetching separate from brief generation

The creator says the brief can fall back to a templated version when the small local model is unavailable. That fallback concerns generating explanatory text; it does not demonstrate that the market-data fetch succeeded or failed. Likewise, a problem in brief generation should not be treated as proof that the price data is stale. Check the fetch stage and the report’s date independently.

The project description also mentions a cached-data smoke test that can run without network access or a model, and says CI runs it on each push. A passing smoke test is not evidence that your local run refreshed live Yahoo Finance data: the description does not say that the test covers live access.

Use current project guidance before applying a fix

No authoritative troubleshooting record for this specific update failure is established here. Avoid assuming that the network, Yahoo Finance, a local model, or a cache is the cause. Check the project’s current run instructions and issue tracker, then compare them with the command that failed and its exact output. Do not delete cached files or alter configuration based only on a stale-looking number; the available descriptions do not identify such steps as fixes.

If you need fresher or more structured market data

For an independent comparison, the review says the BMV market-information page labels its displayed information as 20 minutes delayed. That description applies to the page discussed by the review and does not establish Yahoo Finance’s delay. The creator also points to the Kun Data API README as describing BMV and BIVA coverage, token-authenticated access, WebSocket updates, historical OHLCV, and snapshot queries. This is an adjacent developer data service, not a repair for BolsaBuddy.

Before choosing another data source, confirm the details directly with its provider:

  • How current the quotes are and what delay applies.
  • Whether the service covers the Mexican exchanges and instruments you need.
  • Whether it provides historical OHLCV data as well as snapshots or streaming updates.
  • Whether access requires a token and what usage or licensing terms apply.

The available descriptions do not establish Kun Data’s current price, uptime, licensing suitability, or fit for an individual investor. Confirm those points with the provider rather than treating the service as a verified solution.
