This walkthrough uses a 50-period simple moving average (SMA) crossing above a 200-period SMA as the example. The alert detects a chart condition; it is not a buy recommendation or a forecast that ADA will rise.
What a Cardano golden cross alert detects
In the example used here, a golden cross occurs when the 50-period SMA crosses above the 200-period SMA. A cross in the opposite direction is commonly called a death cross. The 50/200 settings come from Trader745638’s TradingView community indicator, updated March 19, 2025; they are configurable example values, not a universal rule or an official TradingView standard. See the community indicator description.
“Period” means one chart bar. On a daily chart, the averages use daily bars; on a shorter interval, they cover a different span of elapsed time. The community indicator’s author says it can be used on any timeframe and recommends daily or 24-hour charts. That is the author’s recommendation, not a guarantee that those intervals are more predictive.
Set up the ADA chart and indicator
- Open an ADA market chart. In TradingView, search for a Cardano pair available to your account, then confirm the ticker and exchange shown on the chart. For example, the researched technical-analysis page is for COINBASE:ADAUSD, but Coinbase is not the only possible feed. Different markets can have different symbols and prices.
- Choose the interval. A daily chart is a straightforward choice for the 50/200 example. Confirm the interval displayed on the chart before creating the alert; the period values refer to bars, not fixed numbers of calendar days on every chart.
- Add a crossover indicator. Choose an indicator that allows you to set the fast and slow averages and their calculation method. The cited TradingView community example uses 50- and 200-period SMAs. Check the script’s description and source, especially for a community-created script, and make sure its upward-cross condition is the one you intend to monitor. This example does not independently verify the script’s code.
- Set the indicator inputs. If following the example, select SMA and set the fast period to 50 and the slow period to 200. If you choose an exponential moving average (EMA), different periods, or another interval, the alert will describe that different configuration.
Create the alert in TradingView
TradingView supports technical alerts on indicators, including community-created indicators. You can start from the chart or use Alert Manager; exact labels can vary with the selected indicator and interface.
#1 Best Overall
- Open the alert dialog. Right-click the indicator on the chart and choose Add alert, or open Alert Manager and create an alert there. TradingView documents both routes in its technical-alert help.
- Select the condition. Choose the crossover indicator, then select its Golden Cross or equivalent upward-cross condition. If the menu uses different wording, verify that it means the fast average crossing upward through the slow average, rather than a downward cross or a generic moving-average event.
- Choose when it triggers. Select Once Per Bar Close if you want the alert to wait until the chart bar has closed. Trader745638’s community indicator guidance uses this setting to avoid a signal on an unfinished bar. TradingView also offers trigger choices such as once, every time, and once per minute; availability may depend on the alert condition. A bar-close setting does not eliminate false signals.
- Set notifications, expiration, and a name. Select the notifications you want, choose an expiration date that suits your needs, and give the alert a recognizable name, such as “ADA 50/200 SMA Golden Cross — 1D.” The alert dialog’s configuration includes the symbol, condition, trigger frequency, expiration, and message settings. See TradingView’s alert-configuration help.
- Review before saving. Check the selected ADA symbol and venue, chart interval, indicator, upward-cross condition, trigger, notifications, and expiration. Then create the alert and confirm its details in Alert Manager.
What to check if the alert is wrong or stops matching the chart
- The condition is missing or unexpected: Recheck that the selected indicator exposes an alert condition for the upward crossover. The alert label can differ between scripts; confirm what it compares before saving.
- The alert refers to the wrong market or timeframe: Verify the symbol, venue, and chart interval in the alert details. An ADA pair from one exchange is not necessarily the same feed as a pair from another.
- You changed the indicator after creating the alert: Review or recreate the alert. TradingView says an existing alert continues using the indicator settings it had when the alert was created, even if you later change the chart’s parameters. TradingView’s technical-alert help states: “If an indicator’s parameters are changed after an alert is created, the alert will still trigger using the old settings.”
- The alert does not trigger immediately: With Once Per Bar Close, the condition must be present when the bar closes. Check that the alert has not expired and that the desired notifications are enabled.
How to interpret an ADA golden cross
A moving-average crossover is calculated from past prices, so it is a lagging technical condition—not evidence by itself that ADA will rise. The alert tells you that the selected averages crossed under the chart settings you chose; it does not supply a validated probability of a profitable trade. No ADA-specific predictive accuracy or success rate is established here.
TradingView cautions users against relying on technical ratings alone. Its Cardano technical-analysis page displays ratings that can vary by timeframe and change over time, so a current rating should not be treated as a fixed conclusion or as confirmation of what an alert means.
