The listed prices already include Minnesota’s $5 nonresident surcharge. Extra validations or tags, and a possible agent fee, can raise the amount you pay.
Minnesota nonresident fishing license prices for 2026
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources lists these fees for a nonresident adult individual angling license. The short-term periods are consecutive, not separate fishing days you can spread across a trip.
| License option | Listed fee | Period |
|---|---|---|
| 24-hour individual angling | $14 | 24 consecutive hours |
| 72-hour individual angling | $36 | 72 consecutive hours |
| Seven-day individual angling | $43 | Seven consecutive days |
| Annual individual angling | $51 | Annual license year |
These are the 2026 fees published in the Minnesota DNR fishing regulations. The $5 surcharge on nonresident licenses is included in each applicable fee; it is not an additional $5 to add to the table prices.
Which duration makes sense for your trip?
- One day: The 24-hour license is $14.
- Up to three days: The 72-hour option is $36.
- A week: The seven-day license is $43.
- Repeat visits: The annual license is $51, so compare it with the cost of the shorter license or licenses you would otherwise buy.
These comparisons use only the listed license fees. Any required validation, tag, or purchase-channel fee is separate.

Additional charges that may apply
Check the rules for the fish you plan to target or keep. Minnesota lists separate fees for these items:
| Item | Fee | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Trout/salmon validation | $10 | Required for anglers ages 18–64, according to the DNR fee-table description |
| Sturgeon tag or endorsement | $5 | Required to harvest a sturgeon |
| Walleye stamp validation | $5 | Voluntary donation |
The fees and conditions are listed in the 2026 Minnesota Fishing Regulations. The walleye stamp is voluntary; the trout/salmon validation and sturgeon tag apply only in the circumstances described.

What you may pay at checkout
The DNR says its displayed fishing-license price does not include additional fees that may be charged. It lists a $1 agent fee, so the checkout total can differ depending on where you buy. Confirm the amount shown by your purchase channel before completing the transaction. See the DNR’s fishing license information.
When an annual license is valid
Minnesota fishing licenses generally run from March 1 through the last day of February. The current 2026–27 license year is effective through February 28, 2027, according to the DNR regulations page. If you are buying after the 2026 schedule or near a license-year change, verify the current fee and validity dates with the DNR.

Nonresident youth licenses
The DNR fee table lists a $5 annual youth angling license for nonresidents ages 16 and 17. For children under 16, the table says a youth license may be purchased so the child can possess their own limit, and directs readers to a separate page for details. Check the DNR’s current youth rules rather than assuming the adult price or requirements apply.
