To find the sort code for a bank branch in Zambia, match the account-holding bank and branch against the bank’s own listing, then copy the code in exactly the format shown. Some references split a code into bank, area and branch components; others display a single six-digit value. The available consolidated ZECH schedule was approved on 11 March 2021, so treat it as a starting reference rather than proof of a complete, current 2026 directory.
How Zambian bank branch sort codes are displayed
ZECH’s Schedule I is headed “BANK BRANCH AREA SORT CODES” and separates entries into Bank, Area and Branch fields. For example, its Bank of Zambia section shows Lusaka as bank 00, area 00, branch 01, and Ndola as bank 00, area 01, branch 02. For Zambia National Commercial Plc, it lists Head Office as 01, 00, 01 and Lusaka Business Centre as 01, 00, 03. Keep leading zeroes and the component boundaries when copying a code. ZECH General Rules, Schedule I
Not every bank presents the code in those separate fields. Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank (ZICB), for example, displays six-digit values: Head Office 140000 and Lusaka Main Branch 140001. Use the format published by the bank and accepted by the payment form; do not assume that differently displayed formats can be converted or substituted without confirmation. ZICB sort codes
Where to check a bank’s codes
| Source | What it provides | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| ZECH General Rules, Schedule I | A multi-bank schedule with bank, area and branch fields; the copy reviewed is Version 1, approved 11 March 2021. | Use as a broad reference, then verify the specific entry with the account-holding bank. ZECH General Rules |
| Zanaco | A bank-issued sort-code table with Bank, Area and Branch columns. It lists Head Office as 1, 0, 1 and Lusaka Business Centre as 1, 0, 3. | Check the branch entry against the account details. Zanaco lists its SWIFT code separately. Zanaco Swift & Sort Codes |
| ZICB | A bank-issued list using six-digit codes, including Head Office 140000 and Lusaka Main Branch 140001. | Copy the six-digit format as published; do not silently reformat it. ZICB sort codes |
| Access Bank Zambia | A bank-issued branch sort-code notice and contact details. | Use the bank’s notice and contact the bank if the branch match is unclear. Access Bank Zambia branch sort codes |
| NATSAVE | Its useful-links page points to an EFT Sort Codes resource; the linked document’s contents are not established here. | Follow the link from NATSAVE’s official page or contact the bank to confirm a code. NATSAVE useful links |
How to identify the right branch code
- Identify the bank that holds the account. A destination town alone is not enough to identify a code.
- Match the named branch. Use the branch shown on the account or payment instruction; a town may have more than one branch or service point.
- Copy the displayed code exactly. Preserve leading zeroes and, where shown, the separate bank, area and branch components.
- Ask the bank to confirm uncertain entries. Contact the account-holding bank if its listing is missing, old, ambiguous, or presented differently from the receiving form.
Sort code versus SWIFT/BIC
A branch sort code and a SWIFT/BIC are different identifiers and should not be substituted for one another. Zanaco’s page labels its sort-code table separately from its SWIFT code, ZNCOZMLU. Use the identifier specifically requested by the payment instructions or form. Zanaco Swift & Sort Codes

What the available lists can—and cannot—confirm
The ZECH schedule is a useful consolidated reference, but its approval date is 11 March 2021. Bank-issued information is available from Zanaco, ZICB and Access Bank Zambia, while NATSAVE’s official useful-links page points to an EFT Sort Codes resource. The available sources do not establish a complete, verified list for every Zambian bank as of 2026. The Bank of Zambia also publishes a commercial-bank branch-network resource, but that resource does not establish sort codes in the material reviewed.
