Automation World 2026 put autonomous manufacturing, robotics and the AI Factory at the center of its event framing—but the show is evidence of industry attention, not proof that autonomous factories are already widespread. Held March 4–6 at COEX in Seoul, South Korea, AW 2026 brought together suppliers across robotics, machine vision, smart factories and logistics. Its visitor profile also points to practical buyer interest: the leading stated purpose was finding partners and suppliers.
What AW 2026 signals about manufacturing automation
Automation World (AW) 2026 was held at COEX in Seoul from March 4–6, 2026. The official event site highlighted Physical AI, robotics, the AI Factory, autonomous manufacturing and humanoids as prominent themes. That framing signals where the event’s organizers saw attention gathering; it does not establish how commonly factories have adopted autonomous production. Official AW 2026 event page
Here, “autonomous manufacturing” is best understood as a broad direction: production systems that combine robots, perception or machine vision, control, industrial software and connected operations. AW’s event page does not set a technical threshold for autonomy, so the term should not be read as a specific capability level shared by every system on display.
What the visitor profile says—and what it cannot show
The AW 2026 brochure reports that robotics / RPA was the leading field of interest, selected by 29.6% of visitors in its displayed profile. It lists seeking partnerships and suppliers as the leading visit purpose at 34.3%; 17.6% said they came to understand industry trends, and 16.3% to consult on purchasing. These are figures for the event’s visitor profile, not estimates of all manufacturing decision-makers. The brochure excerpt does not state the sample size or methodology. AW 2026 brochure

The supplier-seeking figure matters because it places the trend in a commercial context: attendees were not only looking at technology themes, but also at potential business relationships. Still, these percentages describe stated interests and purposes; they do not show how many visitors went on to buy systems or deploy them successfully.
The ecosystem represented at the show
AW’s official exhibitor list spans multiple parts of an automation ecosystem, including robot makers and integrators, machine-vision suppliers, and smart-factory or logistics companies. Named exhibitors include Universal Robots, Techman Robot, Cognex and MiR, as well as Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB. Their presence establishes that these organizations were listed at the event; it is not an independent assessment of their products, deployment results or suitability for a particular factory. This breadth helps explain why the event’s autonomy theme is broader than robots alone. A production system may depend on machines sensing their environment, coordinating with controls and software, and operating within connected workflows. The exhibitor list shows categories represented at AW, but does not establish that every listed supplier offers an autonomous system.
How a manufacturer should evaluate an autonomy project
A trade-show theme can prompt useful questions, but a purchasing or investment decision needs to start with a defined production problem. Compare options against the work to be done and the factory they must fit, rather than ranking suppliers by event presence.

- Task and materials: Specify the operation, throughput needs and materials the system must handle.
- Factory fit: Check compatibility with existing machines, controls, data systems and floor layout.
- Perception and inspection: Determine whether the task requires machine vision or other sensing, and how inspection results connect to production decisions.
- Safety and exceptions: Establish human oversight, safety procedures and what happens when the system encounters an unfamiliar condition or failure.
- Implementation and support: Account for commissioning, operator skills, maintenance and integration support.
- Evidence from the use case: Define how results will be measured in the intended operation; event attendance is not a performance test.
What the AW evidence does not establish
The event materials support a conclusion about the themes and supplier landscape represented at AW 2026, along with the interests reported in its visitor profile. They do not show how many manufacturers worldwide currently operate autonomous production, whether demonstrations achieved production-grade reliability, or what return on investment a particular deployment produces. No representative market-adoption or ROI statistic is reported in the reviewed AW materials.
That distinction is especially important for finance-minded readers. A broad industry signal can help identify questions worth investigating, but it is not a forecast of savings, a business case for a specific installation or evidence that an automation investment will pay off. Those conclusions require reliable, independently relevant evidence about the proposed system and the operation where it would be used.
